The selector put Utah at top. California second.

I would NEVER move to Utah. I don't care for a religious state and Utah is as close it can be and still be legal and thats not counting the fact that the place acts as if it was a religious state anyway. A religion that has contained the Miracle Ingredient Frauduline even before Smith finished making it all up.

Otherwise its a nice place. However I said I wanted a coastal state and Utah isn't even close to one. What I really want is California with less people.

go to chicago. or new york. or boston. stay away from the south, it's too hot and humid. the north can get hot and humid, but it's good most of the year because of cool weather.

also, there's less reliance on cars; you can often use mass transit in the northern cities.

if you're into high tech industry, try seattle (into the demon's den...) or san francisco area.

but whatever you do, stay away from the south. and new jersey. and delaware.

Pekka: It's sort of tough to know the deal, if we don't know the crime. Generally, if you committed what would be considered a felony while you were an adult, it might preclude immigration. Otherwise, it probably wouldn't.

But I don't know the precise rules.

Yep.. Well I think they won't look it as a good thing if you have killed someone.. younger I tried what pot was like, got caught (duh, my luck) and that's it. Do you think I still have a chance? As I said,nothing very serious, I don't even have a record, but it could effect..

If you don't have a "record" as such (i.e., you were not convicted of the crime), then it shouldn't be a problem. But if it's bothering you, you could consult an immigration attorney.

delaware isn't in the south. it's right next to maryland, and close to washington. but it suffers from the same problem new jersey does: that is, the entire state being a suburb of a major city.

in the case of delaware, it's washington dc. in the case of jersey, it's new york.

and although austin's nice, it's in the south, and in texas... so, not so good. at least in texas it's usu. a dry heat.

mississippi is another state you should avoid. it's south, and worse than alabama, which is worse than georgia, which is the best state in the southeast, if only because of the city known as atlanta.

and that's not saying much, because as cities go, atlanta isn't very good.

although, if you want to come to atlanta for law, high-tech, finance, or medicine, it's a good bet.

Pekka: You may have had it "expunged" from your record, if you did it as a minor--in other words it's like it never happened in the first place.

Re your overall goals, depending on the industry, if you have a job waiting, and your new employers are willing to sponsor you, it might not be as difficult as others make it sound.

Its not criminal in Califonia either. Its not that different from a traffic ticket. However selling the stuff is entirely different. Thats a BIG felony. The feds are bit more picky about it but if you don't have it on your record than it doesn't matter anyway.

Yep, no selling etc.. just one of those experiments young people like to do at some point. As for me, wasn't really worth it. It will be 'vanished' in some time yes, but not like it never happened. Bastards never forget .
And yep, it's like a traffic thingie here too.. actually I had to pay more for speeding (and it was the smallest possible then too).

Hi Pekka,

Immigrating to the US legally is not particularly easy, even if you are from a western country. You either have to have family here or get a company to sponsor you for a work visa. Or you could do what I did and marry a US citizen.

You could always do what 1 million mexicans a year do and come over illegally. You probably wont get a green card though, your skin isnt dark enough...

Dont worry about your police problem, if its not on your record the US wont find out about it. I know because I had a similar issue.

Caligastia, thanks for comforting my mind . Yes, i know that i must have a job sponsoring me for that.. that's not a problem plus my parents happen to live there too, but they are moving back in some time though. I won't come illegally, maybe I'll just have to marry one of you .
And I'm pretty sure they wouldn't find out, but I want to do it the right way you know.. i'm a stand up guy these days....
