A quick way to get to the Middle Ages, and a faster route to knights? By all means, execute this plan.

Now wait a second, I am thoroughly confused. There's a poll that has started a discussion on clarifying what is meant by not playing ahead. In it, it is proposed that we should allow "playing ahead", at least as far as checking out what other civs will pay for techs etc. But this is what I thought the bulk of the FAM's job was, and my thought seems to be confirmed here. So, is this considered bad form or WHAT??!? The first post was from skywalker, and the idea that this is NOT allowed is followed up by UnOrthO and NYE, which gives me much pause for thought on what actually happens.
Look at this:

For the purpose of determining trades, we let people (we may limit this to certain ministers) "play ahead". There would be special conditions on this: you could NOT end turn, move units, or do trades involving maps or communications. |
This suggests to me that this sort of thing HASN'T been allowed until now, not even to the FAM. It is possible skywalker was confused, but then;

Don't like it.
Any form of playing ahead is cheating IMO. What if they discovered a trade that is widely approved would not work? Saving us loads of cash in the process. That = unfair advanage = cheating. |

Not a good idea.
The benefit of tech whoring is what can be gained. Massive sometimes.
The risk is that you will not get what you want and your opponents will be stronger.
It is a game. It must have risk, otherwise why don't we use reload cheating to avoid unfavourable results when we attack? |
Now one person I could understand being confused, but all three? And no-one correcting them? What is going on here? Is the FAM allowed to check to see what trades Civs are willing to make or not? And if not, WTF did those specific prices at the top of this thread come from?
How did someone manage to confuse only me this much?!?!
