	Let us make friends not war! Increase the size of your Attachments

As I see it we would be much better off making friends with our neighbors and giving them gifts than making another war.
Let us expand a lot more first (Uberisland) and get strong with good friends, then pick our target.

I rather think we should attack France now before they become stronger and upgrade their garrisons to pikemen. IMHO we should take a French city or two, then sign a treaty, then start expanding and building.

By taking France we not only get Wines, (more) Iron good land, and cities, but also an easily defended border. We'll be almost surrounded by mountain ranges, the only exceptions being Boston (which we will soon take), a single Greek city in the Dragon's Teeth, and Munich.

Allow me make a correction: actually, we will have several Greek cities to the north of our French conquests, but we will have rivers to defend most of it. I was doing my previous post from memory, and it's been a while since I looked at that part of the world.

Yes, I agree, we need to expand first. However, for our cities to grow without rioting, we need luxuries. And to get luxuries, we need to war (or spend even more time building roads). Therefore, to expand, we need to war.
Interesting paradox, isn't it?

After the French war, I also think we should stop being barbaric folk from the jungle, who use technollogy only to forge weapon. We should show the world we'll be the most enlightened people it'll ever know !

its in out own intrest we start it , and that we do it with a great force , therefore we should wait a bit , so that we have a large force , ....

Pacifism and appeasement have their places in Civ3 games. Their places in this particular game (as in most games of Civ3) are on the path toward defeat.

Download the savegame. You'll see that the other civs are in our path of expansion, and most of them (curiously, the Greeks don't appear to be so) are hostile. You'll also see that other civs have resources that we need.

I suggest you read up on Neville Chamberlain.

Extremist pacifism is always the path to defeat, but reasonable peace is one of the 2 ways to victory, and the most noble one.
When foreign civs have resources we don't have, we can take it by force or by trade. If we have good relations with our neighbours, trade can be much cheaper than war.

Good relations are not a given, but something you create yourself (I know what I'm talking about, I almost always win diplo).
An example from the Demogame : Greeks were cautious towards us, and Persians were annoyed. But we priviledged them in our trades, and we established embassies by them. We took care not to hurt our reputation. Now, Greeks are polite, and Persians are cautious.
(also, only Romans were annoyed before the American war, and only French Greeks and Aztecs weren't annoyed after)

Culture victory is impossible at this point. UN victory is stupid. Therefore we have to go with Domination or Conquest, maybe Score.

Don't forget the space race, although that would likely involve a war to get resources.

And I'd be interested in hearing why you think UN victory is stupid. Npot very likely now that we've been aggressive towards our neighbors, yes. Stupid in general, I don't really see why -- but I'm willing to listen to your argument.

At this point, a UN voictory is perfectly feasible :
with all our soon-to-be cleared jngle, we can have enough population to be a candidate at UN (if we rail/irrigate new grassland tiles)

With so much population, we'll be able to make loads of money. Giving a share of this money to the AI, as well as trading with it, will give us excellent relations, if we want to.

Many people consider UN victory as boring. Maybe it is. But it's far from being impossible)

who knows what we shall get , ....

it could be that while going for one type of victory , we get it by an other type , .....

its a bit to early , ..... a couple turns , wars , tech , resource , who knows , .....

What are you thinking? In what situation is peace better than war at this time in the game. War provides a thriving economy. Putting new jobs on the market and making it possible to make city improvements for our defense. If we were to make peace sooner or later one of our nieghbors would attack us and then we would face the possibility of losing a city. I think we should attack now and prove our nations stregnth to the other contries of the world.

I just think that this is not the time for war, we need more power and more friends before we can go to war again. We are not strong enough to go west in attack and keep our back in the east clean. If Persia and Germany see our attack on France as an opportunity to attack us we are gone.

the one time i tried the UN win i lost (!) because i didnt know how it worked. i dont think ive ever won a space victory either in civ3. conquest is the only fun way.

that is why our military shall be getting bigger and bigger , we just have to wait for a couple extra untis and its a go , .....

and if those other species want a peace of the action , well they can get it , .....
