Please could someone explain to me the way in which the PG decides on rankings in PBEM games.
In one game (Dutcheese) I founded two Cities, completed a Factory, built a Caravan and constructed the Worlds 1st Battleship in one turn. My population also increased a little yet the PG would have it that I am actually weaker!
I am weak in the game but for me to have taken a downturn when I had expected a quite significant leap seems stupid! How can this be?
In another (Semi-Acc) I have increased my military by about a third and changed to War Readiness but my largest City is only Size 4 and I am not the most advanced Civ, in DC I am well ahead in Science though nothing else, yet two other Civs crashed and I have suddenly risen to be being ranked as top-dog. Why?
Using the Apolyton pack you get a breakdown of individual areas of achievement but not in regular CTP. I have never taken the PG as a true guide to 'real' as opposed to 'supposed' power but it should be more accurate than this.
I have never experienced such wild inaccuracies as this single-player so is it purely an MP phenomena?

I concur with Jon. In Semi Acc my own rating dropped considerably, as if I had lost my capital, or disbanded many cities or units. none of these things actually occured.
In around two turns time I had a huge leap back up to my previous position, still having done nothing remarkable.
It appears to use strange means to rank the civs.

I believe The PG dropped that Demos and Shavlor had in Semi Acc was related to the free granary, CW bug mainly reffering to CWs, because if you remember Jon had the files installed to rectify another game. I think I also had the file installed for testing purposes.
So if the power of Civ is decided by the Civ, who takes the turn before it, then if CTP thinks CWs are free then it will effect the Civs ranking.
This is only speculative of course.

Concerning the Ships Jon built in Duthcheese, I think that the PG only accounts for units according thier production costs. It probably accounts for Gold as well so when you rush buy something especially an improvement you will slip in the PG, because you have to pay double for whatever you rushbuy.

If part of the problem is down to the Semi-Acc C/W and Granary bug then Frazer should have either crashed as badly as Demos and Shav or rocketed when I did as you suggested and quadrupled the cost of Granaries to sell them off to recoup my Gold in Burchill's game.
I wish I'd never got envolved in that game as the pace is that of an arthritic snail and it's caused me no end of grief in other games!
