I did a yellow pages map search to find out which square was adjacent to Strandvägen. Quite obvious once you see the name...

Hmm, there's something decidedly non-euclidian about those cyclopean blocks. It brings into mind gibbous visions of the cold, uncaring cosmos. A cosmos where slithering, squamous things dwell in their blasphemous abodes.

I bet the rock is volcanic. Basalt.

Whose signature is that on the pavement? Not the artist's?

This is what the plaque is for. Maybe it'll all make sense if I know what I'm looking at?

That said, if I didn't know this was done by socialists and posted by you (in presuming contempt), I'd have to guess something geological. "Authentic Swedeozoic rocks, back when modern Sweden took up all of Pangaea, placed here for your benefit today?"

The central piece is two slabs grinding into each other. So, it's probably either fornication or glacial flow, and some of the pieces look vaguely human.

Socialist??? I thought this was commissioned by the right-wing local government to comemorate a member of one of Sweden's richest families...

I think it's awful. One of the least visually appealing public monuments like, ever. No sense of colour or proportion, lack of drama, quite definate ugliness. Right when it was put up some idiot spraypainted fields of silver paint on them, and it actually made the monument better. Astounding.

It's too dark to see details, but looks like a load of gravestones. PRobably entitled "The death of ..." something or other. Capitalism perhaps ? Or maybe a reference to war itself ?

Better yet, "The end of public funding of daft arty farty projects".

Ugh yeah, on a second look they could be submarines, well some of them anyway.

Maybe they are just, what they are, and folk get a kick out of getting others to say what it is they see in them. That'd be typical.

I want to thank all of you who came in with guesses. It's sad, although altogether unsurprising, that nobody was even in the right ballpark.
