Has anyone noticed the Greeks have reached their island? Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Sorry to raise a dead issue if someone else has already seen this, but has anyone seen that the greeks have begun exploring the island off the coast of Pharsolas? They've even founded a city, Thessalonica.

While it looks like a small, civless island, we can't see much on the map we have right now. There is a possibility that the Greeks will soon be rich as contact traders.

If this does happen, should we wait till the contacts have been bartered around are fairly cheap, or should we try to be among the first purchasers and sell them to everyone else?

I'm not an expert on contact devaluation, but I think we should wait. We don't have the GL or anything else that benefits from contacts, and, in my experience, the price plummets to 15-20 gold once enough civs can trade it to you.

Wow. That's scary -- didn't realize. I'm going to suggest that, as part of our mapwhoring project (http://www.apolyton.net/forums/show...&threadid=59280]) we trade for the Greek's map, so we can get an updated view, assuming that the last time we traded was more than a turn ago.

The fact that the Greeks colonized that island is not of grave concern to us, except for the fact that they have galleys. The island wouldn't have been productive to us, and would have been of little strategic value, as we are close enough to them to need require a jumping off point, or staging point.

I agree. What worries me is the possibility that one or more of the "missing" civs might be on the island (or continent, for all we know).

I guess there isn't anything we can do about it, though.

Tired of ads?

We just have to accept it. However, should we ever fight the Greeks, we might want to try to take the island, which will likely be underdefended.

Who cares about the Greek island? We have to colonize Uber island, and PRONTO, or do you want an unsinkable aircraft carrier near out coast?

Sir Ralph is right, that island could be an unsinkable aircraft carrier, just like England was during WWII for the Germans, and I don't like the idea of having our capital bombed every turn. I just wanted to say that should we ever fight the Greeks, we should try and take the city or cities on that island.
