Combat Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I think a game like Civ could be improved if there was a FLAG which let you have RTS fighting. And I realise RTS is bordering on a swear word here.. but here me out. You play the game like normal, moving your units around the board... but when a "fight" insues you go to a RTS map (maybe two screens big) with the appropriate units. This allows for strategy in combat, and for a superior force to be annihlated by a talented commander. Its the merge baby, and I like the sound of that.

Ouch... and I thought TBS was the game in which talented commanders had more of an advantage, not RTS. In RTS the advantage is in many cases given to the one who can click the fastest

Enter the AD-FREE zone

Well, not if done properly. See the Total War series. Or even SidMeir's Gettysburg (though there is no turn based aspect inthat one). Those have RT combat aspects, and thats not dependent on who can click the fastest, usually

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Okay, there will be other games (I haven't played any Total War game, nor Gettysburg, but heard a lot of good comments on them) of course, but don't you agree it is more of an exception in the RTS market, and even those have some skill aspect to them? What I mean with "clicking fastest" is not just clicking, but also being good with grouping, selecting, sometimes aiming. All of these are skill based, as I have got a serious problem since the last four years with fine control of my right (mouse) hand, I noticed how much of these games really are about speed...

One example: I simply loved Starcraft... until I drove my motor into a tree. After that I could still play the strategical aspects of the game, but only on SP, on a low game speed... the few ventures into MP were shameful. At least you don't run into problems with this with TBS, there it is purely a mind thing, not a skill thing. People who type with one finger can be just as good as professional programmers. So, it is less discriminating, also for those among us how are getting a bit older, and feel the arthritis creaping in

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

I liked Rebellion's (though that game sucked in other areas, mainly micromanagement that would make Deity-freaks cringe) system where you not only did stuff at the strategic level, but could actually command your fleet in battles. The best thing about it was the choice of whether or not to control the battle - you could just click a button and the computer would simulate it and give the results instantly.
