Randomize Resources Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

I'd like to see an option to randomize what type of strategic resources appear on which types of terrain. It may not be very realistic to have oil appear in hills or mountains, but how many times have I built cities very early in the game near or in desert or tundra squares because I knew oil would most likely be there in the far future?!

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

I like it the way it is. Now you have to plan where you build cities. Adds depth and strategy to the game.

But more option is always a good thing

I instead think that most non-organic resources should be ablee to pop up in any terrain - with some exceptions like Oil in Mountains. I haven't understood why Uranium should be found mostly in forests.

Then you might say "but hey, most mines and oil wells IRL are in waste terrain like deserts! That is because
1: much of the world's surface IS wasteland!
2: mineral deposits in populated areas are usually depleted as soon as man learns to use them.

So, allowing mineral resources in most kinds of terrain will add both balance and realism!

Suffering from ads?

I think there should just be MORE different types of all resources, and more varied requirements to build stuff with them. The resource management system is one of my favorite bits of Civ3. It's caused more of my wars and border struggles than anything else. I would like it greatly expanded.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

in the editor you can do everything. change where resources appear, change their occurence rate...

just go to "edit rules", then select "resources", change the appearance ratio to 000, which makes distribution completely random, then go to "terrain", and select which resources are availible per terrain.
