2 a week is a sustainable amount.
As the esteemed UnOrthO points out, the turns per play session should vary, but generally, when things are quite busy, 5 sounds good, unless there are dramatic developments. No Commissioner should play beyond any point where, say, a Faction attacks and takes one of our bases, even if they have only played one turn.
As for turnchats vs threads, turnchats can be fun, but by the looks of it very difficult to maintain. They should be done where possible, but they should not be required. Turnthreads need to be there at least, and turnchats whilst they are feasible (eg early on, when there is little to do, turnchats should really be done, but once we have say 30 bases and there is a helluva lot of moving units and formers around, chats would take hours and cause havoc for the Admin). Another reason chats are less than ideal is that they require many Directors to be present at one time, and we have seen that this breaks down after a while.
