Looks like what many have thought it would be. Now is the question, does it replace the Swordsman or Medieval Infantry?

That's pretty cool, though I'm not sure I would ever use the marine ability.

As pure speculation, I would doubt that it would replace swordsmen, as it would probably (at least in my games) be a while until you could get galleys to use the marine ability.

on the other hand, the fact that the russians still have spearmen, could indicate that it replaces the swordsman. or maybe just the russkies are underdeveloped as usual...

It's also possible that the Russians either dont have Iron or simply have not yet upgraded that spearman. On the other hand, it's likely that the Viking Civ is in the middle ages as well and has access to Feudalism or Chivalry, or whatever tech is required for Medieval Infantry. Unfortunatly, it's all speculation until Firaxis tells us more. But my guess is that it replaces the Med. Infantry.

Maybe the only reason for including medieval infantry is that Firaxis now has a new unit that can be replaced by a UU. Two UUs replacing swordsmen (roman, persian) should be enough.

Dudes, this is awesome. The Vikings may now become the most powerful/valueable civ. The ability to launch amphibious assaults that early in the game ...with fewer defenders in cities, with no railroads ...that's huge.

What I don't like so much is that the Vikings will be Militaristic and Expansionistic.

I think I'll just go make them Commercial and probably keep the expansionist-trait.

Who says that?

As far as I know Mongols and Mil & Exp.
And I doubt that they would give 2 civs with those traits.

Or the screenshot is arranged like many others, they just put the units there with the editor. So the screenshot really isn't a clue.

To be historically correct the vikings should be both militaristic, expansionistic and commercial, but when picking two I would definitively (sp?) have picked commercial. If I remember correct most of their travels were with the intention of trade, not war (although the latter got most attantion, wonder why ). The difficulty is to choose between the other two. But considering the game is about fun and not realism I'd go for com/mil.

But not new 8 civs need to have same traits.
They can all have diffrent traits.

Anyway, personnaly I think that they would be Mil & Com or Exp & Com.

Industrial and Scientific don't make sense.
Same for Religious.

Full PM-box? Change here!

This is what I saw at CFC

Carthaginians: Commercial/Industrius, UU is Numidian Infantry, spearman with increased attack/defense and no special resources
Koreans: Commercial/Scientific, UU is Hwacha, cannon with increased bombard and requires less special resources
Mongols: Militaristic/Expansionist, UU is Keshik, cheaper Knight that requires less special resources
Vikings: Militaristic/Expansionist, UU is Berserker, Actually Berserk Longbowman with increased attack, defense, AND amphibious attack
Spanish: Religious/Commercial, UU is Conquistador, weak, cheap, requires almost no special resources, treat all terrain as roads, and doesn't replace anything
Celts: Religious/Militaristic, UU is Gallic Swordsman, swordsman with faster movement
Arabs: Expansionist/Religious, UU is Ansar Warrior, replaces Knights, and are faster and cheaper
Turks: Industrial/Scientific, UU is Siphai, a better attacking Cavalry Actually Ottomans and Sipahi

It shows the current listing of civ traits and UU info.
