	Top 5 Game Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

OK, here goes this thread about those who should play in a new PBEM game. These are the guys that take top 5 positions in the rating table.
Admittedly, I hoped that this game could be under way by this date, but so far we're not even launching it. Tomorrow is the last day when no delinquency penalties are applied, and the PBEMs will be moving on more quickly. I have just played turn 7 of Eagles at War and turn 17 of the Islands game. IMO, when they reach turns 9 and 19 respectively, we could update the ratings and go for the new game.
Quinns, do you perhaps think we should be waiting for more turns, or not? And another question, that I would like the public, especially the players to decide: will this game be rated as usual, or should we perhaps add a small rating multiplier, so that you can earn more points in this game?
I already own the 5-player scenario that can be successfully used for this game, and it starts right away in the Modern era. Of course, it's possible to modify it at any time. In the scenario, you start with 7 Settlers, 2 cities, and 1 Mounted Archer, 200.000 gold and 10.000 PW. This is for a very lightening start, I think we again should use a rule that no Wonder rush buying is allowed till turn, say, 5.
I'm waiting for the ideas. So far, players taking the Top 5 position in the rating table are:
1. Mobius
2. TheBirdMan
3. King Thor
4. Stavros
5. Blackice
But, this could well change.
Stavros, what about you? You're rated, but don't want to play rated in Do Some PBEM, will you play in this game? I think that if someone refuses, we should shift players up, thus having player ranked 6th enter the game.

Hi Solver, The only reason I didn't want to be rated in Do Some was because of the blatently unfair starting position. I'm not against being rated in general (since I think I'm in something like 4 or 5 rated games , and did have quite a bit to say in puting together the rating system in general (remember, you wanted to wait until a game was Finished!, before updating the ratings)

In response to your queries:
I think there shouldn't be a special weighting for this game. We are the top 5 after all. It's not like we need more points. Just being ranted against each other should be enough.
I would be all for waiting for more turns. We've only had about 4 or 5 resulst so far haven't we. At least one (maybe even 2) results from each rated game IMO. This gives all rated players a chance to make the top 5. Of course you could start a new top5 game every month, but that people would soon hit their max-game limit

Agree with Stavros. Let us wait a little longer (a week or so) before we find out, who the 5 are.

Agree with Stavros regarding NOT adding more points to a special rated game.

Solver, everytime you try to propose a special circumstance for this or that situation, you unwittingly create a bunch more work for me in regards to new programming. In addition, and more importantly, having more or less points for special games is grossly unfair and will definitely cause problems with other players. Please refrain from suggesting changes to the BASE rating system calculation as this must remain the same FOR ALL GAMES.

I don't mean to sound inflexible on this, and I'm sure the rating system seems pretty simple, but let me assure you, it took 3 years of work and about 50 separate programs to make this system TRULY fair and accurate. By the way, I'm all for having a TOP 5 game, I'm only against giving SPECIAL RATINGS for any game.

There have been very few results so far, so the ratings at this moment mostly reflect which players have defeated the AI at high levels. In my opinion it would be best to wait some time until more results have been added.

By the way, Stavros, have you received my emails about Lungs's fast game? You sent me an old turn on saturday and I would like to receive the correct turn.

Hi all.

This game is absolutely a good idea!
But I would like to inform you that I was planing on starting three games using the Keygen's Series. The one just posted regarding youngbloods against veterans, one with the oldest PBEM gamers and one with the best gamers.
The last one will be the best, players who have won on PBEM or have proved that they can play CTP very good, competing each other. I am planing on starting it in a week or so.

Of course, I want you to know that this game will not start before the results are changed twice more.
Keygen, we're going to have problems here I fear. Sorry, but the ladders are "mine", and in December 2000 I said that the Top 5 game will be taking place in January 01. I like your PBEM series idea, but I think that the Top 5 game is property of Quinns and me.
You already get enough games here, and I think that there should be one Top 5 game, taking place time to time. Moreover, I own a special scenario theat is ready for this game.
I will, of course, appreciate your comments on this subject, but that was mine (even though perhaps rough) opinion on the subject. Please take no offense.

No man, no offense at all.
I was planning those games from late November to early December too. I just didn't have the time to do so .

I think that the top 5 players in CTP ratings have not all won PBEM games and some other who aren't in the top 5 have won.
That will be the main difference of the two games.
Better have two games with the best players than just one. Because I think that the best players are more than 5 .
After my victory against the AI on Deity I will get the same rank with Blackice so I with him will be considered the 5th best player according the CTP ratings.
But as a reason that I will start a game on my own I won't claim Stavros' position .

How about expanding this idea with a game for rank 6-10,11-15 etc.. Maybe then we could work some kind of promotion/relegation system between games.

Of course, anyone might have his own opinion on who the best here are, but they might vary. On the other hand, there's only one rating table. Perhaps having two games is not a trouble if you name the ones you'd like to play, assuming they're NOT exact Top 5 of the ladders.
And yes, Fraze, I have though of expanding, but so far noone seems to be keen on the idea, so let's wait for more messages.
