...it depends on what do you think it is.

In simple words, it's booze with salted licorice added. The salted licorice (salmiakki) gives it a black color and gives it a flavour that makes it very easy to drink. In fact, they had to lower the alcohol level once, because people drank it too much so easily...
Still, almost every foreigner that I know that has tasted it, has called it the most horrible drink in the universe
