Radartower exploit? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

You know, I was reading about the benefits of radartowers and suddenly I came up with a way to exploit this during war. The AI usually keeps it's workers in it's cities during war, so I wondered about this; What if you capture a city and use the captured workers to build several defensive radartowers, thus giving your battered forces a defensive and offensive edge. Would such a thing be considered an exploit?

Suffering from ads?

Why would that be an exploit? It would be intelligent use of resources at your disposal.

No more of an exploit than any other use of captured workers. A unit can only get the benefit of one radar tower at a time though. In addition, they can only be built in your territory and the workers are used up in building them.

Good question. Do they live there? Do they work there? Do they play there? What will they do up there in that radar tower?

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

And what happens if an enemy unit goes onto the tile your radar tower is in? If it's destroyed, then this is hardly an exploit.

Hmmm, I can see already see the threads before me .

'Cheating AI!!!!' thread no. 356395689567259346 posted by a random newbie

"The AI uses my workers to immediately build radartowers in the vicinity of my cities, thus denying me the opportunity to obliterate them. How DARE they use this tactic which I have used against THEM countless times! Firaxis, fix this NOW!!!!! This intelligent behaviour of the AI is completely unfair to me, the human player, because it damages my inflated ego !!!!"

Should make an interesting read ........

Ah, but would the AI be programmed to be so creative? That would be nice. You know, it could be that you can only use workers of your own nationality to build radar towers and airbases. Would you trust anyone else?

Speaking of overlays, it sure would be nice to be able to see an outline of all my cities' radii, so I could easily tell just by looking which tiles were within which city's radius.

But yeah, that would make too much sense.

This would be good, but if you've played Civ for the past decade you can easily visualize the cross pattern.

in war sometimes a strategy i use is to move workers in front of enemy units as a distraction , so i have time to move more units or to protect units from attack. it works because the AI will always take advantage and capture a worker.

btwe i find it stupid that the AI moves all workers into a city right before it may be captured

How is that stupid?

Makes sense to me, I always move my workers where I can protect them.

it makes sense to protect workers if you need to , but for instance some times the city was defenseless and my units were outside when the workers were returned to the city. but other times it was also obvious i was right about to capture the city and take the workers. sometimes i move them into cities to defend them if i know its safe other times its smarter to move them away

It makes most sense to move the workers away from the borders, rather than into risky border cities. That way they can still do work rather than wasting time doing nothing in a city. I always have to chuckle when my scout units see the AIs workers all rushing for the nearest city, which gets taken the next turn.

And its not just workers. In one game I was doing recon flights to watch two AIs go at it (which I recommend if you want a good laugh). The French have no less than 70 infantry outside a Russian city, ready to take it the next turn. The Russians, meanwhile, decide to put a battleship in port in said city just in time to be taken. There was no naval threat to the battleship, they just sailed right into port in time to be destroyed by the Frenchies.

Doesn't matter since the workers are sacrificed to build the Radartower.

Maybe only workers of your own nationality should be able to build a colony as well.

WarpStorm, it's keeping track of several city radii at once that I find difficult. After the outlying land has been settled, I may want to plug a hole in my empire, so to speak. I then have to figure out which tiles are being used in order to optimally place my new city, and that means mentally combining the radii of several (maybe as many as 5) cities. Personally, I find this difficult.

I think the workers must go when building something like the radar tower or a colony. If they where not used up, it whould be to easy to put them everywhere.

Which implies you should always use slow workers for building radar towers.
(Captured workers if your own civ has the industrious attribute.)
