Felch,

quote:
Wow, David Floyd for President. You registered with the LP?

I'm not registered with any party. Last election I voted straight Libertarian, but for Senator I'm probably going to vote for whatever Republican is running against Ron Kirk. I hate Ron Kirk enough to vote Republican (he used to be mayor of Dallas, I'm from a suburb of Dallas).

SS,

Not much we can do. It isn't our business.

Fez,

Order National Guard out to the streets in the US's most dangerous cities and start rounding up domestic troublemakers, such as people in gangs. Sending National Guard out to the streets will maintain national security against international terrorism aswell.

That sounds like a good way to get Guardsmen killed in street fights that they aren't trained for. Soldiers and Guardsmen are not policemen.

Well then they should be trained for that. And militarization of the police men are good.

And Guardsmen are specifically for maintaining national security, so shouldn't they be not? That is what the Spanish Civil Guard does... the Spanish equavilant of the National Guard. It gets involved in preventing crime all of the time with police.

At least under the Franco era in my country, the society was better off. It is well off today but that is because Spaniards have sense and don't abuse privileges like some Americans, specifically with the drinking age. In my country people drink socially... in the US most people get drunk that is why the drinking age should not be reduced but infact raised in the US.

Look at the US. I mean when I was in Spain people don't get drunk... infact they drink socially at bars where you can order tapas... but I am sure you know about those. Anyways, I appreciate my country's society because it is in working order. The US and its society is rather questionable.

quote:
Well then they should be trained for that.

Uh, no they shouldn't. That's what the city police force is for. They have plenty of firepower, and far, far, far better investigative skills, which is what police work is 99% of the time. A SWAT team is much more useful than a platoon of National Guardsmen in an urban environment.

quote:
And militarization of the police men are good.

Er, why? Many police officers are reservists anyway, but those who are not don't need military training for police work - the two fields are not really related.

quote:
And Guardsmen are specifically for maintaining national security, so shouldn't they be not? That is what the Spanish Civil Guard does... the Spanish equavilant of the National Guard. It gets involved in preventing crime all of the time with police.

That's nice, but I'm telling you, all you could conceivably need Guardsmen for is the enforcement process, and the police already have ample resources for that.

quote:
If I was Presidente, I would say it is.

You obviously have no clue how the US legal system works.

quote:

Really? I wasn't aware that Cuba has no social spending and no gun control.

quote:

Do you have any idea how ridiculous that idea is?

Let me quote Benjamin Franklin to you:
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
- Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759.

quote:

Found with what? I mean, you already have the entire army on the streets in the US, and the CIA operating internally.
You'd certainly need that to hold on to power, anyway.

Well then get the National Guard to learn. See in my country there are the Police and Civil Guard, both do investigative work. But the Civil Guard is more national and protects national borders more often but works along side the police all of the time.

Er, why? Many police officers are reservists anyway, but those who are not don't need military training for police work - the two fields are not really related.

Investigations aside, the standard Foot Patrol Police Officer should get military equipiment and training if he does not already so have.

Why do you want cops carrying around M-16s? I agree that they should carry .40s rather than 9mms, but cops don't generally need assault rifles - and when the need arises, SWAT teams are used.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Just a few quick thoughts-
- withdraw from every alliance but NATO, including the U.N. Force the U.N. to leave American soil.
-try to get Russia to join NATO
-close all military bases in Eastern Hemisphere
- deport all illegal immigrants, create a new branch of the military specifically for patroling the border
-end all multi-party trade treaties i.e. NAFTA
-institute trade controls and tariffs, promote national self sufficiency especially in heavy industry, plastics, and textiles. Only import materials that cannot be produced in the U.S.
-give the government power to liquidate any company caught using illegal immigrant laborers
-institute martial law in inner cities
-declare English the official language
-redifine what it takes to be a citizen. Simply being born in the country will no longer give someone the right to vote. The right will be reserved for those who serve a
2 year term of service in either the military or in a public service corp. Entry into the service will be dependent on passing a mental competence test.
-require gun owners to carry firearm registration cards. Only allow those who live in areas official determined as rural to own firarms.
-repeal affirmative action programs
-expand capital punishment to any crime involving the use of a firearm
-legalize marijuana. Tax it heavily.
-nationalize professional sports. Set a salary cap at $100,000 per player. Use the rest of the profits to support a national healthcare system.
-use any oil reserves we have
-increase pollution controls on factories when they are rebuilt. Support a policy of conservationism, not radical environmentalism.
-end current foreign aid programs
-create a policy of non-intervention in foreign civil wars

Tired of ads?

Hmm I'm not expert on this but:

- try to isolate a little bit more
- do something about the alarming prison situation (don't know what though )
- close down few agencies or at least put them in a tight leash, there's too much of them and they are not very effective working together (cia, fbi, nsa, dea, atf etc..). Too much power.
- tax HEAVY on tobacco and hard booze (beer not included, nor wine), and direct the money to establishing tent villages to some remote location where the homeless could go and live for a while and have some basic education and rehab. BTW if someone does this, I want credit and be part of it.
- Investigate RIAA and Microsoft.
- Establish new military unit, which recruits foreign volunteers, everybody with good condition and safe backround are allowed, lower pay but possibility for citizenship in 2 years, if in combat, 3 years if stationed outside the US, 5 years if in the US. Must be able to speak good english, and possibility to move up ranks in the ranks, it's separated from the regular army, but it works closely with them, trains with them and have also american soldiers in it, to make it 'less international'.
- Make it mandatory to have enviromental issues included in business plans, before giving loan from the bank, or start money for own business. Only in certain fields of business, and for bigger companies.
...
umm that's it this time. Mostly domestic issues, and may not work in reality, but hey you asked me!

1) Ban all non-hunting firearms, with exceptions of law enforcement, military, and security personnel.

Enact new laws that can effectively counter an inevietably emerging black market for non-hunting firearms, and consult with European nations on such black market problems.

Establish a five-year compensation program for middle class and lower middle class employees of non-hunting firearms manufactoring companies, as these people will be seeking new jobs, and retraining or furthering their education.

2) Abolish almost all forms of corporate welfare.

3) Withdraw all U.S. military forces from Western European and Southwestern European nations.

Withdraw 25% of all U.S. military forces from Japan, and allow Japan to begin a gradual rebuilding of its own military infrastructure and forces for a new army, navy, and air force.

4) Establish a more aggressive government program in researching a viable energy alternative over oil.

- Abolish the electoral system. It just means that some voters get more say than others. A big no-no.

- Eliminate all forms of protectionism, corporate welfare, agricultural subsidies, and porkbarreling.

- Legalise drugs, gambling, and prostitution. Tax these as well as tobacco and alcohol. Shift funds to education, preventive medical care, and higher salary for civil servants to curb corruption.

- Ratify the Koyto Protocol. Start being more environmentally conscious.

- Reform the educational system. Eliminate all private schools. Increase funding to public schools. Give teachers better training. Pay them more.

- Completely enforce the separation of church and state. Any religious person making noises on politics will be publicly humiliated and stripped of any religious titles and/or offices.

- Tax religious organisations like normal corporations. If they do charitable work they'll get a tax break on the amount they put into that area, but no more.

- Slash military budget

- Put in progressive tax codes

- Establish a new office to combat corporate graft, corruption, and other forms of illegal activities.

- Release all petty criminals, fine and put them on social services.

- Reform political campaign finances.

That will do for a start.

UR, just two comments:
quote:

The system simply is outdated. It had its use when large parts of the country were only sparsely settled and the next election locale would have been days away. The system was set up to save farmers to leave their farm for several days and undertake a (possibly dangerous) trip to give their vote. I think the electors did to the tavelling business. Today's conditions simply have changed.

- Reform the educational system. Eliminate all private schools. Increase funding to public schools. Give teachers better training. Pay them more.

I don't think private schools in themselves are bad. The problem is that public education often sucks (see Germany).
