What are we going to do when our computers get too fast to play civ II? Tired of ads?

The day is coming. I just loaded the first Close Combat on my current PC, which is about the same vintage as Civ II, and it played at hyper speed, totally useless.

What are we gonna do?

For TBS the speed thing is not an issue. Other incompatibilities are possible, I guess, but there are always emulators.

Coming from a guy who can't play many of his old faves due to new computer (Colonization, Great Naval Battles, Centurian) I think I'll just keep one that will play Civ 2.

Civ 3... No thanks.

For civII, I can't see any problems arising from faster processors. Until they get a working/tested version of MP for III, no interest here.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Incompatabilities in the relatively near future aren't inconceivable.........even now civ2 runs under protest under the 32-bit operating systems with some hardware configurations.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Well, you gotta plan for the future.

That original Civ2 game concept is still kicking after 7 years is proof that it's damn close to perfect! (Ever noticed that most people still play with original rules?) But not even the mighty Civ2MP will stay with us forever...

Tired of ads?

People in China have long been using 'Speed Gear' to adjust gaming speed -- you can play as fast as 256 times of normal speed, or as low as 1/256 of it. So there will be no problem in the future.

Increase Your PM Length

Speed gear, is that something like that old "moslow" dos utility?

I don't think the actual problem is speed (Civ2 is turnbased afterall). It's the problem that certain apps need a lot of tinkering to get them running properly under WinXP.

I believe the problem will not be the speed of the computer but the software we get given to us from micro$oft.

Got spare money?

You take your Civ2 CD with you and you demand they install and play it before you buy their equipment. The consumer must demand their purchase be Civ2 compliant.

I have 2.42,FW and MGE running on XP with no problems or fixes at all.

If MS makes future OS's non Civ2 compliant, then you don't use the OS.
