How.... Swedish. Personal experience would say that porn actually decreases the birth rate, but I'm not even thinking of claiming that my experience on this field of matters is anywhere near credible.

Having more porn on T.V. will only lead to more guys sitting home by themselves and jacking off. Raising children is expensive; if they really want to boost birthrates they should give cash assistance to parents in order to make it less expensive.

I know this isn't the best example but the Nazi's used this tactic to boost the German birth rate by nearly 50% in the 1930's. There is no reason other countries couldn't do the same. Minus the racism of course.

interesting idea to use porn for a higher birthrate. I agree with Oerdin's original comment and add that I don't get the clue how porn would increase pregnancies in a such large scale the politician seems to expect. Doh, just some rumblings.

There is another good question which Time Magazine asks in its most recent issue. The American birth rate has been increasing steadly since it hit an all time low in the late 1970's while Europe's has continued, more or less, downward. Why the reason for this divergence?

My guess would be that the US has more religions that allow and cause larger families and thus higher birthrates. The Mormons are a marginal group, but the Mexicans and Catholics (or even more, Catholic Mexicans) are another story. Europe, on the other hand, is mostly Protestant, excluding Italy, Spanish, Portugal and other possible smaller countries, and I think Catholism isn't practiced that fanatically as it is in the States.
