I don't normally get astronomical scores because i move on to the next level when i can consistantly get 100%+ in games on a certain level.
I think I got around 300% on Prince once.

521% at Deity level. Probably could have got more if I max out the number of cities, but that's so boring.

Could someone please explain to me exactly how the %'s and points are calculated?
I know about the points being for population, wonders, peace, spaceship, barbarians and pollution, but I can't seem to find any relationship between the number of points and the %.
Also, do you lose points for unhappy citizens, or just get less points, and if so how many? How many extra points do you get for having a happy citizen as opposed to a content one?

I always found the % to be just exactly that, one number out of another. Look at the Hallf of Fame in the civ2 section (here). If you look at the people's scores and their percentages, you'll find a direct corrolation... or just a common denominator for each level. At a quick glance, it looks like the numbers for a 100% game are:
Chieftain - 2500 pts
Warlord - 2000 pts
Prince - 1667 pts
King - 1250 pts
Emperor - 1000 pts
Deity - 769 pts
You can try them out, those are all for v2.42 and FW i believe.

I have found out that the best scores I can make come when I have built a well-oiled(...) perfectly running modern state machine capable of extra rapid scientific research or endless conquest etc etc.
But it gets SO DAMN BORING. There is no challenge. No other civ can challeng me so I... retire!
Scores are always the last thing I seek when playing Civ. First of all comes challenge. If that doesn't exist I don;t have fun and don't play anymore.
For the record my best score was 300% or something in prince level a loooong time ago.
Now most of the times I get around 80% but I don't even know if I will be able to win because I play in a way that creates new challenges (e.x. stop scientific research for some decades, let enemy capture a strategic city, give enemy scientific advances etc)

Hello Civ2 fans,
I Just started playing again and as I recall my best % was in the -400%. I guess I wasn't playing the updated 2.42 then. I remember I was going to capture the last enemy city with wonders and I flipped my score from 290% to -300% some bug or another I guess.
I have started playing again and I couldn't agree more with paiktis22 that scores are boring. I beat the game Diety/Raging/7 Civs/Blind eye to Ai and I retire. I feel a rant coming on I think I'll put this on another post.

p.s. I do understand the need to evaluate oneself with ones peers, it is valid. I do not think the score is the means however.

my above post should clue you in I really don't care for score anymore. About 6 months ago I got into the game again, and was trying for bigger and better % and score. But I lost interest in that. So I cannot remember what my highest % is, and I reinstalled the game on my new hard drive so can't check haf.
Also I dispute the % calculation. I posted a thead on this a while back with no repsonses . One game I was messing around and activated cheat mode. Well I won in a very early year, because of this I had a low score. I conquered the world and everyone had small cities. But my % was high. I think % correlates to the year you finish (arrive AC- or conquer the world) almost as much as your score. But there is a obvious correlation with your score obviously.

"damn, these scores you guys get are very high for me, cause I quit the game around the year 2100 AD. My highest score has been: 74%"
Diablo, what level do you play on? Like man ypeople have said in this thread, the score doesn't really matter, but I am sort of surprised that 74% is your high score, and yet you play 80 turns past many of us.
And DA, I've never gotten a high percentage from conquering the world early... I mean if you have the hard evidence, I would be more than inclined ot believe you, but the numbers I gave have also agreed with the games I have played (I've been playing Civ2 since about 96). Do you have a saved game or anything?
