Government specific buildings? Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Do buildings that can only be made under a certain government continue to exist if you switch governments? Do they continue to have an effect?

I was thinking that communism could be boosted by giving it another corruption decreasing building that required no maintainance and was fairly cheap to produce. This would be a secret-police type building (also reduce propoganda efforts). However, if other governments can switch to communism and build this building and then switch back and still gain the benefits...well...it would make this avenue rather fruitless. Too bad there are not variable types of communal corruption.

Anyhow, does anyone know about this?

I've read elsewhere that gov't specific buildings deactivate if you change governments, and that they come back if you switch back to the proper government. However, I haven't tried this yet myself, so I can't confirm it.

I can. Once you switch govs the buildings will disappear from your city list, and so will any of it's effects. If you go back to that government however, the buildings will return. In short, it works just the way you want it to.

No problem. One thing to keep in mind, there were some problems with this feature in the early patches. Make sure you have at least 1.21f, or they won't work properly. You'll still be able to build them the way they're supposed to, but the effects of any wonders still lingers after a government switch.
