Hi,
Has anyone here looked into the possibilities of developing a civclient
with Crystal Space? (opensource 3D-engine, see crystal.sf.net)
I tested the 'isomap' sample-application that comes with crystal,
which renders a map in 3d seen from above.
It would be great if freeciv had that fine graphics!
But it is too much work to develop this, am I right?

"An actual 3d map would be cool to look but would it add anything to the experience?"
A 3d-rendered map would make the game look more realistic,
eg. you could have a terrain with height. More realistic -> more involving gameplay.
I'll take an example from a (kind of) similar game:
Warcraft; the first two versions where in 2d, and
now Warcraft 3, which looks just excellent with its 3d graphics.

I've thought the same, but it isn't really feasible unless somebod can draw us some nice 3D graphics.
Also, Crystal Space is C++, while freeciv is C...
