Maybe the fact that it was so many more inventions then the others combined might be the reason?

Chris 62: I concede that it was Ford's idea, Hitler got the idea from him whilst in prison, reading Fords biography. More Beetles have been produced than model Ts, but a substanial part of that production was in Mexico.

This is a picture of one of the Colossi. It was built to crack German codes. I suspect you're thinking about the first computer to use transistors as opposed to valves.

Put an end to popups!

Sandman, you said Hitler came up with it first, just pointing out that wasn't the case, Ford built 15,000,000 model Ts from 1908-1927.
Volkswagen would produce 20,000,000 of the versitle beetles, but Ford did it first.

Got spare money?

I'm pretty sure DNA and the web were British discoveries.

Chris - your assertion that America has invented more things than Europe, Russia and Japan combined is one of the most poorly thought-out statements I have ever seen on poly. We were inventing things before you even started chucking tea away.

Pot ... kettle ...

In the last 100 years I'd say a significant amount of inventions were American, but not the most.

Your double talk is getting better.

Won't kill you to admit it, we didn't become a super-power without creating things.

Britain was the world power in the 19th century, the USA is for the 20th, we will see about the 21st.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Before the edit the post was just as unintelligible as a typical ottok post, Sloww...

And I'm not even saying that Europe, Japan and the USSR invented more the last century (although that can certainly be the case, and it certainly isn't far less like you claim), but that the statement that the US is indispensable for technological progress in the last century is ridiculous. Sure, we probably wouldn't be as far as we are now, but the same goes for the European, Japanese or Russian contributions. But I if you like to live under the delusion that technological innovation stops outside of the USA, I won't stop you.

I know there have been great American inventions and great American inventors (like Thomas Edison).

And the 21st century belongs to Switzerland! Never get complacent around the Swiss.

Crick and Watson discovered DNA at Cambridge, England, IIRC.

To all of my knowledge, Lithuania was liberated by the Russians from the Lithuanians, then by the Germans from the Russians, then by the Russians from the Germans, and then by the Lithuanians form the Russians, with gentle permission of Mr. Gorbachew.

Ah, my mistake, all the more painfull since it's almost Sept 17, the day Market Garden started. Living in Arnhem I should have realised that, I know you were a paratrooper. I actually saw your old avatar on a site about Market Garden.

About Lauren Bacall, I saw her sometime ago on television and she still looks beautiful, for a 70+ woman who refuses to have bodyparts lifted. And she still has "The look". Bogey had one hell of a lot of taste

Well, actuallt the first intra-network was created in France, but American were the first to put it into militar use.
Just my 2 cents on your two sucres.

(Explanation : the "sucre" is the money of equator : 1 sucre = 0,0000001 euro, = 0,00000013 dollars)
