a) If I would call someone "boy ****er" would I save my neck without a ban?
b)Would that justify an entire thread been closed because a pair of posters got off line, and prevent the rest from responding to the ongoing conversation?
Please, let me know if that's the case so a) I can insult people and get away with and b) avoid joinning a conversation in case it is cutted in the middle by closing the thread.
More info here.

First... The thread was a troll to start with, and then degenerated into a personal little flame fest... What little discussion that was left had nothing to do with the original topic, so it was closed. If you feel that some of the non topic issues you wanted to discuss were valid, nothing is stopping you from starting a new thread on that specific topic and continuing the discussion.

Ming, every thread in OT is a potential troll. As long as there is a chance for debate, troll or flame can break in no time.

This is not my point here...

Second... They were warned if they continued their little war in other threads, they would be restricted...
|
That is not enough nor a reason to close a thread where more people participate. And I beleive lot of posters here have been warned in the past more than once so what's the point? Do they know that they must not post insults or not?

So... to answer your questions... If you insult somebody, you will probably be warned not to do it again, and then restricted if you do. If you go way overboard, you may be restricted without the warning.
|
I can understand that but calling someone "boy ****er" isn't way overboard? Well, to be honest I don't care about that actually but certainly I would prefer if you would ban someone for such an insult instead of closing the thread as long as you do feel like taking some action.

And as to your second question... you might as well post only in On Topic forums if you want to avoid posting in a thread that "might" be closed/deleted, because the odds are better that it won't happen in an On Topic Forum thread |
I barely post in the OT, mostly hanging around in on topic forums, but where can I read or post off topic subject if not in the OT madhouse
Ming, I greatly appreciate your superb job in OT and I can understand that you have to put up with that s-h-i-t in a daily basis. I can also understand that some threads have higher chances to turn into troll fests and that limits your patient toward them but don't close the door to the rest because some people like to fool around. This is not the army where all get the prise for one man's mistake...

Just some are more potential than others

But it was my point... that discussion had nothing to do with the original topic... a new thread is ok...

It's a matter of opinion... Besides the two bozo's, there wasn't much other particaption, and that's when I usually close it. If there had still been an ongoing meaningful discussion going on, I would have treated the thread differently... but again, a matter of opinion.

If we restricted people everytime they make a minor insult, I would be spending all my time restricting people.
I have no problem with "MINOR" flaming, especially when it's done in more of a fun playful manner instead of meant as pure anger or hate. Again, a matter of opinion... So I would prefer to chill them down then restrict. Now, if they are stupid enough to continue after being warned, then nobody complains that somebody got restricted
Many of the topics discussed are VERY emotional... so I expect a little back and forth... we act when it starts going overboard...

Again... a matter of opinion and style. I view banning as the LAST RESORT. I would much rather chill people down and close/delete a thread than restrict somebody.
MtG on the other hand believes in the "ban them all" action, and sort out the innocent later
So you are welcome to your opinions... I have no problem with that. But I'm welcome to my opinions as well
