Ok, so what's the basic plan? What's the first tech to be researched and what's the first wonder we aim to get? I say leave the early ones for now, perhaps get the Lighthouse or Collossus and go straight for the Great Library. Then head for Leo's Workshop. That should set us up to be the best civilisation in terms of technological superiority.

First techs should definately be on the path to The Republic, then Invention.

What say the Council?

If we go straight for Republic we should get it around the same time as Monarchy anyway (for me it does usually)

I usually make a play strait for monarcy and tehn pottery for HG. That way my setlers can reap the rewards of three trade arrows or threee food on irrigated and roaded lands much sooner there by increasing the rate of expansion and growth.

...We have to be careful- our enemies are probably doing the same things... I say that if we are close to enemies- we research ALL weapons...

then if we want trade- research that then caravans...

And/Or we can 1st- Hanging Gardens (to be built after 4 cities are founded) then we get monarchy... HG is built... Beeline for Leo's workshop (which our army advances will allow us to get to/Engineering)... We can afford to lose GL if we take an alternative path.

The path depends also of the level of the game : in deity, we need techs and improvements for happiness.
In a lower level, we may go quickly to republic, by monarchy.
If we have technological superiority, the military one may come later. (But I don't have experience of MP playing).

What level are we playing?

I suggest going to Monarchy ASAP. It is inherently better and it is easier to support than republic.

We will be playing king level so we don't have the unhappiness problems to worry about, thats why i agree with going monarchy first and then getting as much weapons tech as possible. Leo's should be a top priority. I would also suggest that we try fro the Great library, Agains AI it may do no good but we can keep up with and/or stay ahead of th Human players if used correctly. we will research weapons tech and they can research the improvements for us
