Turn 35 --> joao paulo (jpww)
I hope that the antagonism between the Brazilians and my prince regent (Keygen) can be cooled down now that I have returned to rule my lands once again.

Turn 35 to BlackIce (I guess you already knew that )
------------------------
Austin,
We are happy to hear of your return. May your nation enjoy everlasting prosperity under your command. We consider everything that was said by your clumsy Prince Regent water under the bridge.
Joao Paulo

Turn 36 to BlackIce
------------------------
Terrible news have shocked the Brazilian nation. English troops attempted to ambush a Brazilian mounted archer by the name of Leitao. Leitao had no choice but to defend himself. We urge the English nation to stop trying to bully us!
Joao Paulo

The Times newspaper of London reports that "sources" (believed to be diplomats close to the English leadership) have leaked copies of a memorandum sent by Austin Cambridge to joao paulo of Brazil. The memorandum is as follows:
quote: joao paulo,
Please move your horseman 1 tile North and then continue East until you are close to your new Brazilian city. This is not a demand, it is advice. Otherwise the horseman will find itself stranded to the west of the English border guards with no route back to Brazilian territory.
You are probably aware now of the English/Brazilian border which extends from the South coast where you expelled a settler several turns ago to the North coast close to your horseman. The land west of this border is claimed as English, and we make no claim on land to the East.
This is not an artificial border designed to grab land. The guards are only a couple of tiles away from English cities, except for close to the North coast where there may be some room for negotiation if you feel that your lands are being squeezed between the English to the West and the Romans to the East and North. I'd be interested to hear of your explorations further
South. |
In fact, the Times war correspondent understands that the Brazilian horseman travelled North and then North East where it encountered an English phalanx. The phalanx, being on a Northern coast could not move West towards its own territory and did not want to travel East which would have meant trespassing in the land around a Brazilian city. Instead it remained where it was and was unmercilessly attacked by the Brazilian horseman.
The Times believes that the second and third paragraphs of Austin
Cambridge's note are a sign of the non-aggression of the English towards the Brazilians, and of a willingness to negotiate about territory and borders. It therefore fails to understand why the Brazilians declared war, and then followed this up by mounting a worldwide propaganda campaign about English aggression.
We can only hope that the action of the horseman was not authorised by the great Brazilian leader joao paulo, that the mounted unit will be court martialed and disbanded, and that peace will be offered to the English leadership before we are plunged into a war following this unfortunate border skirmish.
Even now, English cities are reported to be gearing up their musketeer and cannon production, financed by the 13 trade routes made possible by the Labyrinth...
