	Help with intenet multi-play needed Put an end to popups!

I have a strange (to me) problem with playing a multiplayer game on the internet.

I can get to the server, and to the lobby. And I can converse with people in the lobby. But, when I try to create a game, enter a game, or back out of the lobby, I get a "connection lost" message and I just come back to the lobby. This makes it impossible to actually play a game, and also makes it impossible to even get off the server without using the three finger salute to stop CTP.

My game came with the 1.2 update.
I also installed the 1.21 hack (after trying a few times )
But neither of these changed any thing.

Any ideas?

BTW: I also re-installed the game etc...

That happens to me when I've got a bad latency, or "ping". What is the latency for the lobbies on the screen where you choose which lobby to go into? If it is a latency problem, Blackice is a good person to approach for tips on improving your connection speed.

I think the ping speed was really good like in the 20's
I noticed somebody else was in there going yellow once
in a while at 500. But mine was 20-30 and steady green.

Yeah. I think during install a file gets corrupt. Its a 90-10 chance. Took me 15 installs to get mine working

In general you get this error when you or your opponent have a different file, I mean someone had changed the rules.txt or units.txt file, or because if you are trying to start using a MOD and the other player had not the MOD installed on his PC.

That's why reinstall is a good way to reconfigure files changed maybe by mistake if you had that wrong files, but maybe is the other player whom changed the files.

Yes, Checkmate, you and I discussed this yesterday. Me and Eddie played 8+ hours from when we saw you. Me and Erni play all the time and no problems. I wold try what Redbull suggested, pain in the AR$E as it may be, it may be your only viable option.

Thanks for the help all.

So far no joy.

I am only up to three re-installs so far. Not 15 yet :<

My ping rate is about 20-30 when I log in so I don't think it is speed. Also I don't get far enough along to have interaction with the other players files. I can't even get out of the lobby. Back button itself triggers the "connection lost" message and keeps me in the lobby.

I don't think I have a firewall? This is just a PC at the house hooked up to a DSL line. Is there some sort of "firewall" that could be running without my specifically trying to create it? At one time I did have this machine hosting internet sharing to a another computer here. But I didn't think there was any firewall. Have any idea what to look for?

GL=Game League
If someone says DL=Double Login meaning you go by two seperate names which will end up geting a free trip to Solver Hall or if your the grand prixe winner..[SHUDDER] then its off to MING-A-PULCO

Troll, but if you have a DL, but you don't use the 1 st Login (Like FG-Saddam, Giancarlo-Fez, etc. etc.) thats okay, right?

I don't think I have a firewall, this is a home computer using MSWIN98. I tried to go through the settings but didn't find any firewall per se.

Do you know what I should be looking for in MSWIN settings?


I tried reducing some of the security features from the control panel->internet setting, but this had no affect.

Redbull was just suggesting to re-install ctp a bunch of times. I guess I could try that. But it seems like nothing
could change. I have done it a few times already.

GL and DL. I was always trying to use the server as player name=checkMate. He seemed to suggest that if I canged names something could go wrong. I don't think I did that, although I may have when I was trying lots of things.

CheckMate, Troll was talking about 'poly. A Double Login on Apolyton is banned. If you have two logins, then it will be disabled. Absoulutly nothing to do with Internet gaming

Well redball went to the server with me and we noted the following.

I see a very high ping rate on my end (20-30) where as from his side he sees my ping about about 300+

Messages sent by me in the lobby are "double echoed" to me when I type them. (I only see single echo from redbull) and he only sees singe echo from me.

This is in addition to the other symptoms I mentioned earlier.

Does anybody recognize these problems?

Has anybody used the servers and ctp successfully
with a DSL line?

Yes I don have filters.

It is a high speed (DSL) dialup. The DSL can remain on and connected at the computer all the time. But I still receive calls etc...
