Persia, Science, Economy, and the art of Starvation Support Apolyton

We are taking several large Persian cities shortly that will need to be starved down to a suitable size. I propose that instead of changing them to entertainers or taxmen, we keep ONE as a Scientist at all times and move the sliders to 0% Science instead of minimum. This will increase our $ income substantially while maintaining a minimum of research. We have 6 turns For Passagrad, By the end of that time we will likely have another size 5-6 Persian city, and another 4-5 turns of free science...

Thoughts?

Anyone care to go calculate the difference in research points and gpt? I'd want to look at those figures first, but I really don't have the time right now to go do the math at the moment.

At this point researching doesn't pay off. Vulture and I researched this thoroughly and we've reached the conclusion that if so many AIs have it, and at this point where we don't even have a single functioning library, it's cheaper to buy than to research a tech, and investing more than a single lyton in science per turn would be a waste, as research won't pay off.
In other words, I second what UnOrthOdOx says.

You have a point there, Shriber... if you look back at the history of Apolytonia, what techs did we actually research on our own (list the techs if you can/will)?

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Apolytonia's Technological Firsts
Underwater Basket Weaving
Jungle Burning
Discovery of Poison Ivy
Banana-based Lubricants (don't dwell on this one)
And "Running jumps over rivers" (We don't need no stinking bridges!)

Did I miss any?

What can I say, Technology is not our strong point, heck for us it isn't even a point..................

Okay, so assuming that we want to buy Theology from Greece this turn...
First, we should definitely reserve 80 gold for upgrading the elite horseman in Pasargadae to a veteran knight. In this case, the optimal deal would be 106 gold and 25 gpt, a total of 606 gold.
In case Aggie does not want to use 80 gold this turn and noone else needs more than 12 gold this turn then the optimal deal would be 178 gold and 21 gpt, a total of 598 gold.

Ah, but saying Science is a non-issue makes it a non-issue. If, instead, we kept science at 10% and stopped making excuses, and built librarys, wouldn't it then be worthwhile? But if we just keep putting it off and making science our last priority, will it ever be worthwhile? If you switch it back now, will it still be at 0% at 1800A.D.? These are questions we must ask ourselves before saving some gold.

On the other hand, perhaps that extra gold could be put to rushing librarys. That would be a win-win.

Um Hello????

I think mentioned this idea about 15 to 20 turns ago.

If I'd have been listened to then, we'd have 120 to 160 extra Lytons right now
(and still be 12 turns from Theology)

Got spare money?

+1 to Unortho's plan.

After the Persian war though we really should try to become self-sufficient science wise. It should be more than possible once our cities have cathedrals and have grown to the point that the sistine is at max effect

Full PM-box? Change here!

I have a question reguarding the war weariness observation BFM made.

Was Persia really in war weariness or was it in the process of switching to Monarchy in order to prevent war weariness?

I don't have the game here at work so I can't check.

I'm kind of surprized it wasn't implemented then.

Can't afford new libaries until the Persian war starts winding down anyway. (We need more Knights)

But, we we buy Theology now instead of waiting 12 turns, the 10% science we have spent on it since the idea came up won't be a complete waste, since the price to buy is lower than what it would have been otherwise.
