	Area 25: Peace Or War Techs Increase the size of your Attachments

This thread does not exist.

Considering Two Techs Ahead (assuming possesion of Engineering):

There are, as I see it, three distinct paths our tech buying can take. Which is best?

Education-Banking
Education-Astronomy
Invention-Gunpowder
(Also Printing Press-Democracy. However, I beleive that we are going to be researching (gasp) these on our own)

Banking Is very peaceful, gives us extra income.

Gunpowder may be useful. We might not have saltpeter and musketeers aren't all that and a bag of chips, espcially since we shouldn't be fighting too many more wars.

Astronomy gives us the opportunity for regular commerce and transportaion with Uber Isle, as we recieve the Caravel and the ability for harbors to connect seas.
Also, the wonder doubles scientific output at the city its built. Doesn't help us much.(grumbles) *Ooh, look, now we have !2! beakers here*

Also possibility of completing Leo's Workshop with invention.

I'm posting my current tech aquisition plan here, but it is not set in stone. I may modify it after reading this discussion.

I do not plan to buy Printing Press, as we are hoping to research that on our own.

I plan to buy Engineering this turn. It will leave us with the possibility of then obtaining Invention should we need it.

We will get Education from Persia in peace. We may get another tech from them as well. We are hoping to discover that the Scientific Persians know more than they're letting on, and they may have more knowledge in 10 or so turns when peace is settled.

I want to set us up to aquire Astronomy and Invention, and should we become lucky a third time, we can rapidly aquire either of these techs to build a third wonder.

My current trade priority list is: Invention, Education, Astronomy, Gunpowder, Banking, Printing Press.

Thoughts?

While Copernicus won't help us now, if we place it in Gaia (size 6) with all of Gaia's rivers and dye resources it could be a potential scientific mecca.

The germans have Astronomy, they are building Copernicus in Hamburg. We can get Education and Invention from Persia in a peace deal (checked). After the peace with Persia, we could try to buy Astronomy from Otto (will be expensive, for sure), and try Gunpowder in another trade, maybe involving luxuries (I'm counting with the Persian incense). Then, we can research Banking or Printing Press (I agree with Togas, we can buy Banking too, and this left PP to research on our own).

Agreed with Togas on the order to buy tech with minor exception that I wouldn't buy Printing Press unless it's needed to fill out a luxary sale for a tech with a cash poor nation.

Once the Golden Age starts, we should be able to do some actual research if we keep to a path less traveled while our libaries are built.
(Like Printing Press -> Democracy)

We should research astronomy, which would increase our naval capabilities for both military support as well as transportation of ground units. A Minister of the Navy position should be created so we may have someone to deal with ruling the seas...

1. Trading for almost every tech is faster than reseraching it.

2. Something like Minister of the Navy won't be needed until we build a Naval Combat unit. Even then, it's probably better to be a sub-minister to the Supereme Military Commander than it's own elected post.

Education-->Banking
then to
Education-->Astronomy

With banking we will be able to raise our income to provide for projects that before would have taken too much out of our economy. Following a war with the Americans this would allow us to beef up our colonies quicker, and through that amass a navy large enough to keep our ports safe and dominate the seas!
