Culture flip rejected by AI!!! Tired of ads?

I never saw this one before: a city of mine, with salpeter in its radius, flipped, but it was rejected by the AI... Have any of you seen this???

I was playing on Deity if that's got anything to do with it...

I have a screenshot on my harddisk of it, but how do i attach this???

Enter the AD-FREE zone

Add it as an attachment, it must be 600 pixels wide or less and the file size must be less than 500 kbytes. Try and post it as a gif or a jpeg as the file size will be less than what a bmp will be. (But if bmp is all you've got, post it! I and many others here would like to see that.)

Tired of ads?

Posting screenshots can be a challenge. I use MS Paint to capture screenshots - MS Paint supports bitmaps (".bmp"). I reduce screenshots to 58% size by using the "Stretch/skew" command -- the 58% size gets them just under Apolyton's 600 x 450 size limitation. I then need to use another application to convert the bitmap to a jpeg (".jpg") in order to create a reasonable file size. Pain. But then again I am no graphics wizard by any stretch of the imagination.

I have seen the AI refuse a flipping city once, and have seen several screenshots from others showing the same thing. It seems to happen, but why or when I cannot begin to understand.

EDIT: Well, you figured it out during the time it took me to wite my post!

No idea. It looks like your city is a great take!

Depending on how far their capitol/FP is, it might be for corruption reasons. Or maybe they don't want to make you mad.

Double amount of optimal cities?

This would a nice addition in the diplomacy depatment IMO, " agreement not to accept culture flipped cities".

@Catt: can't save to JPEG with ms paint? IIRC I can.

It's happened to me as well, only at the time the civ was one of my allies and infact was my closest one, I don't know if it was because they liked me that they didn't take it or if it was just because I was more powerful though.

I actually experienced a situation where, on second thought, I should have refused a cultural flip. I was playing as the Egyptians on Monarch and was aiming for a 'single-city' cultural victory. (Part of my strategy was to build temples before settlers, which really hampered the growth of my empire, but nevertheless made me vastly superior in terms of culture.) While I was still in Despotism and had not researched Map Making yet (alas no galleys), a Zulu city on another landmass adjacent to my continent flipped to me. I decided to let it join my empire and rushed a second spearman as soon as possible. It was a calculated risk, as the Zulus were likely to try to take the city back by force, and I was unable to ship reenforcements. To make a long story short, the Zulus, which had swordsmen, declared war on me two turns later and managed to take the city back. Oh well - nothing gained and nothing lost in the process, I thought.

Many turns later - I was a Republic in the early middle age, no. 3 at the histograph and still superior culture-wise -, the very same Zuly city flipped to me a second time, and I decided again to let it join my empire. My reasoning was that a) I was able to reenforce the city's defense over sea by now and b) the Zulus and I were trading luxuries on a 1-by-1 basis, so that war would hurt them too. It turned out that the Zulus had a somewhat better reasoning, namely a) reenforcement was likely to take at least two turns and b) war would hurt them too, but not as bad as me, because they weren't a Republic. So they declared war on me the next turn, threw about half a dozen impis and swordsmen against the city and, again, took it back. Moreover, I had to adjust my luxury slider up a notch to substitute for the Zulu's lost luxury.

At that point I swore to me that if the people of this city would try to join my empire a third time, I would refuse to acknowledge their claims. They seemed to be aware of my anger, as they didn't try anymore.

I technically can, but the conversion from bmp to jpg absolutely destroys the color and therefore the visiblity of the shot. I need to use another application to convert a bmp to jpg without ruining the screenshot.

It has proven to be a game full of surprises, because after I conquered the Greek capitol Athens, it revolted twice to the Americans, and they declined 2 times...

I wasn't in an alliance with them, although we had good relations and never had a war between our peoples.

I changed that by declaring war at them ( 64 Modern Armors where getting rusty).
Now hear this... They took Athens which held the Hanging Gardens, but those barbarians RAZED it. They razed a city with a WW.

Hit them really hard as payback...and got the almighty Persians to do the same...

I raze cities with wonders as they are really not worth much at that late date and if it is a large metro, it maybe too much to try to hold. The game is getting near the end so a little culture is not valuable. I rather send my MA on to another target.

Got spare money?

I think that a flipped city counts as a conquered city to the AI which will affect their attitude so I've refused flips of AI cities that are pretty much worthless to me.
