The motive for the seemingly random crimes still eluded police Wednesday, one week after the first of six slayings. Nearly 200 investigators were working their way through 1,600 leads culled from 8,000 tips. "We need just a shred of evidence," Prince George's County Police Chief Gerald Wilson said. Police sources told the newspaper that the Tarot card was found next to the spent shell casing in a wooded area about 150 yards from the school entrance in an area of matted grass, suggesting the gunman had lain in wait.

No, by default, I will blame Islamic terrorists. I will assume that all things bad are the work of Islamic terrorists until proven otherwise and even then I will doubt the proof.

While I wonder if this a hoax or not, serial killers almost always leave a calling card. A big part of their M.O. is getting the notoriety for their actions, and they can't become infamous if they aren't eventually caught. It is a game they like to play.

AFAIK, the boy is still critical.

Anyway, I now put the shooter as an ex-military college student in the Maryland area who has family in Virginia. Had some event last week on Wednesday afternoon that set him off. Went home to Virginia for the weekend wounding lady in Fredricksburg on the way. No killings over the weekend. Arrived back in Maryland on Sunday night. Lives off campus. Will strike again very soon.

But they match the shell to the earlier shootings which would seem to exclude a copycat.

Of course it could be a police ploy to get him to reveal something of himself. Serial killers hate it when false info is spread about them.

If you're interested in guns Virginia is definitely the place to go. While guns sold at stores are subject to background checks and waiting periods, guns sold privately have no such restrictions. This includes gun shows, at which private "citizens" gather to hawk their wares. Throughout the Commonwealth there are probably several shows each month. There are booths at which several dozen guns will be offered for sale. The crowd is usually very diverse, generally even including several guys in "Do-rags", and alot of people with New York and Boston accents.

The card was left next to the shell casing from the bullet that hit the boy. It's very likely it's the same person.

Police are also looking into whether a (K-mart?) employee was the first victim. He was shot two weeks ago. However, the bullet that was recovered from him was too fragmented for analysis.

A woman was detained for questioning Wednesday in the search for the serial sniper who has killed six people and seriously wounded two others in the Washington, D.C., area.

Prince George's County Police said the woman may have dropped off a man seen walking into a wooded area near a high school in the county.

Police, FBI and ATF agents were searching the woods after getting reports of a white man wearing blue jeans and a blue jacket seen getting out of a blue car and carrying a long, black bag.
