World War 1 Games Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Recently, I've been reading Harry Turtledove's The Great War Triligy, which got me to thinking, why aren't there any WWI FPS? Currently we've got games like BF'42 & MoH, but I've yet to see any WWI games. Sure, Iron Storm technicly takes place in WWI, but that's in the 60's.

How interesting would it be? Go over the top, die immediately, game over.

Oooooh, maybe you could play a game consisting of digging support trenches, and after a while you die because of a stray artillery shell hitting you.

The only WW1 FPS that make sense are fighter airplane simulations, of which quite a few have been released.

WW1 tactics are of course a great basis for TBS models of static warfare to be implemented. Successful trench digging is an art. Successful trench overruning is more than an art.

Historyline was a great TBS WW1 game..

I'm sure that there was enough activity towards the end of WW1 to make a FPS. However it would be rather sparse on storyline.

I actually has bought the game (to PC), but even though I have the cd, I chose to download it, since I was too lazy to search for the cd (And yes, it's on a cd, because I bought a special pack (3 games and one add-on on one cd)

Would be great if they made a sequel for that game, were they don't change much gameplay (unlike what they did with Battle Isle), but added new things like MP (over LAN, internet)...and of course redo the graphics

FPS? You don't see a lot of actions along the fronts back then.

Lets not forget about trenchfoot and mustard gas. There are myriad opportunities to lose limbs, get gangrene and generally die horribly

Try "Robinson's Requiem." It has nothing to do with WWI, but you get the same WWI experience anyway (since you have almost no control over your status and frequently suffer from a myriad of ailments, from a sore back to gangrene, plus you can practice giving amputations without the aid of anasthetics or even antibiotics).

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

It wasn't a very fun game, since it was very nearly impossible. Eventually I just timed myself to see how far I could travel before dying from shock/blood loss/gangrene after having amputated all of my limbs. Answer: Not very far.

I'm curious. How did you manage to amputate your last limb, or is this via some sort of automatic surgical machinery?

Put an end to popups!

I still had one of my arms -- the maximum you can amputate is one arm and two legs. That's why I was still able to crawl, more or less, after my hasty surgical procedure had been completed.

There was probably a way to amputate all four limbs, but I never got far enough in the game to use it.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

I was going to suggest historyline but someone beat me to it. The other WW1 games i've played are Wings and Red Baron both flight sims which probably isn't what you were looking for. Really enjoyed Wings on the Amiga though and i think its available for download on the publishers site -- Cinemaware
