This thread does not exist.

Neither does a plan for what to research next.

This is incredibly disappointed with all things considered. Right now there are three incredibly lucritive techs that will available after Printing Press - Democracy, Navigation, and Military Tradition.

When I started the first Area 25 thread, there was a large amount of discussion on how to get to these and which path to go for first. As it turns out, they will all be available at the same time.

So, what would you like?

I really don't have any arguments myself, as I really haven't thought much about techs for almost a month.

The French problem will probably be over by the time we have Mil Trad and then the only target we'll have is England.

I'm betting that someone has already started researching Navigation too.

That's a very good question Apoc!
Military Tradition will be available for sale before we can research it ourselves. The AIs usually take their time in researching government techs so Democracy would be a good choice. Dunno about Navigation though...
I'll wait to hear more arguments before I vote.

Call me a hawkish builder, but I strongly support Military Tradition. The sooner we start cranking out Cavalry, the better our national defense situation will be.

I support 1-Navigation 2-Military Tradition 3-Democracy

We're doing pretty well with our government for now, there's no need to jump into another revolution so soon after the last one (yeah I know it's only a turn but still)

We need to find the lost civs. Navigation will get us there, and we'll be able to build up a fleet that will rule the seas. Comes in handy during a military conflict too. Dropping off units from a boat at weak spot can have devastating effect.

Military tradition is an obvious must. Cavalry are best until the tank comes out, and the security of our nation would be strengthened greatly through this..

I wouls strongly suport Democracy for its techwhoring abilities. The AI's won't go for this first and we will be able to techwhore the other two cheaply with it. Germany is likely well on its way to Mil tradition and England most likely went for Nav for its UU.

We will get all three about the same time (if the tech slider goes up).

Navigation, then Demo, then MilTradition.

I suggest trading Nav for MilTrad with the Germans (assuming we both have it by then). In effect, it's a free tech, since the Germans are more or less landlocked.

Navigation. It's a gamble, but finding the lost civs should be a priority, IMO.

It depends what the goal is just now. But I think there is two choices only;

1) Navigation.
2) Mil. Tradition.

If we want a period of consolidation, even including a small war with France, then Navigation is the way to go. Find the lost civs, and milk them. But if we want to continue to crush all before us, on this continant, then Mil. Trad is a must. It is also good for defense porposes.

We really need Nav, that's for sure, but what if some other civ is deep into researching it right now- we probably be to late, and we would want it anyway, so, we would rush to buy it- which is IMO preffered over losing a few turns in that race for the lost civs.

My vote goes to Demorcracy first:

If we are to buy Nav we need the dough, researching Democracy and whoring it around will compensate us, switching to Democracy by the time we research it will be benficial- as i think most of the citizens are either for war with france (only france), or for peace right now. Those who call for war on england are a minority- so peace is probably what we'll have after we deal with france (or at least we won't be the ones to declare- which means the war weariness won't be that bad) so the best government will be Dem.

I think we should go for Democracy, for its techwhoring abilities. The AIs will probably research Navigation before we do and we'll end up buying it anyway.

Navigation would bring us the potential for enormous benefits (first to discover other civs), but as Apoc states in another thread, this may be discovered by someone else shortly. It may well be expensive to buy, but I don't think this will mean we should research it ourselves if someone else gets it first.

Democracy could, after a little more infrastructural development, lead us to even further riches, and I have taken note of the arguments for Democracy's trade value.

Military Tradition will allow us to attain the strongest land attack units for some time, likely well before any other civ. This would be essential if we were in a state of constant warfare, but it appears that we are more for the strategic campaign style.

I have to say that, if the trade value is high enough, we should aim for Democracy. We are in a good position to change governments if the people vote as such, and the value of it may mean we get these other techs and Lpt for the research cost of one tech.

Voted Democracy exactly because the other two techs are more useful.

My resoning is that I'm surprized none of the AI have Navigation already given that the Germans had Economics. One of the AI's will have it very soon.

Military Tradition: The AI has at least an 8 turn lead researching this, and so they'll probably discover it first as well.

Even to be the first researching Democracy, the tech rate will have to be increased high enough to where it can be discovered between 10 and 12 turns after discovering Printing Press.

Just saying that he's right, Democracy is the least likely to be researched by the AIs.
