I know, I know... My fault, that....sometimes, progress reports just sorta fall through the cracks.
The long and the short of it is though, that we're still here and working, despite some hairy-scary trials and tribulations (forum attack--still down and still working on that, btw--real life issues for several of our team members--including me...but, despite those things, we're still inching forward.
Dale's leading the way with the coding effort, putting more of the infrastructure in place, Hex's graphics....well, many of them are now here on the site, and speak for themselves...
And as for me...I've been mired in the single biggest piece of writing for the game...the event engine. It's closing in on being done, but still not quite there. When it IS done though, a HUGE milestone will have been reached. I am expecting to have the basic event list (~350 strong) completed in less than two weeks time...no firm guess yet on how long it'll take me to finalize the Historic Game events, but that is a significantly smaller set (less than one hundred, total).
With that completed, I'll put my head together with Hex and Dale, and see what the next-most-important creative writing task is, and get to it!

Report from Chaos Central,
Velocigames HQ,
Columbia, SC
The condition of the condition:
Okay, I know we've got miles to go before we sleep yet, however, here's my take on the progress of the game....
Art-Wise: All menus and screens are done, and Hex is now at the "Gratuitous Eye Candy" phase, where we're making the game really shine....most games, as I'm sure you're aware, skimp in places, graphics-wise. Message boxes tend to be bland and boring. Pure functionality, and not a lot of artistry.
Not here. One need only to glance at the most recent "eye candy" threads to see that even the lowliest of our message boxes and popups go above and beyond the call of duty, and incorporate flair and style and artistry, and I think you will find, when the game is released, that that sort of attention to detail and artistry will be woven into every element of the game.
Art-Wise, Part Two: Just as our menus and interlude screens are reaching a high degree of polish, so to, is our terrain. Busta has been working tirelessly on this aspect, to create a unique, lush, and beautiful look for us, and has succeeded in ways I never imagined. It is simply beautiful NOW, and he continues to polish and refine as we make our way to the finish line.
Sound-Wise: All major sounds needed are already in place, and again, Busta's work here has been magnificent. I have added a slight new wrinkle to that equation with the creation of the "Nilroggi Event Cycle" (requesting some new sounds to accompany those events, specifically), but on the whole, our sounds are at the ready, and again, Busta is treating our ears to continual refinements to what we alredy have, and adding to the bredth of our musical options. Good stuff.
Code Wise: The skeleton is in place, and I'm afraid that *I* have been the biggest hurdle in making more rapid progress, because Dale asked me to get this Event Engine fleshed out next, and I sorely underestimated the scope and magnitude OF that project. Soon as I have it done though, I expect he'll be announcing some pretty cool updates on the code front.
Writing-Wise: My whole life has been revolving around this damned event engine. There have been days when I have outright hated it. Other days when I get so lost in the beautiful chains and related events that I adore it better than any other aspect OF the game. Definitely a love-hate thing going on there. It's 90% completed now, and I'm hoping to have the basic event list completed and posted for review and discussion by this weekend.
There are some behind-the-scenes events which will not be done in that timeframe. These include the "World History" events (progress is ongoing, and I just added a new one this morning), the "Historical/Family" events (80% done, but in need of revision and updating), and the Interludes (see the thread bearing that title). If I had to guess, I'd say that those elements will be completed in ~2-3 weeks time (which gives you guys enough time to review the basic event list and let me know if any of them are lamers and such).
Once that is done, I'll dig up the old threads on the CB forums (assuming they're back up and running) and grab the in-game messages and misc. popup box text I had sketched out earlier, review and finalize them, and then I have to go back through and implement a few changes to some of the spells (thanks to JustinSane's analysis OF those spells).
After that...all the major writing for in-game systems will be complete, and I shall turn my attention to crafting a Candle'Bre Encyclopedia (name sugesstions welcome!) which will be one part help file, one part history file, and I think that's a wrap, writing-wise (unless the Code or Art Masters require something of me)
Conclusion: In my mind, once I put the wraps on the Event Engine particulars, we're on the downhill side. Still not confident enough to give a date, but...yeah. We're crossing this finish line...
