It appears to work.

Wasn't there an IRC channel at apolyton.net (or the gamestats server) that Apolyton used a few years ago?

I seem to remember a chat or two back in the day.

Aha. The total maximum number of simultaneous users allowed on the IRC server run on Settler seems to be 6 and it also looks like there's no registered chatrooms as there's no rooms listed in the serverlist. Anyway...

Nice new feature, Markos.

P.S. If you try to connect to the server using an IRC client, I recommend that you join the #apolyton channel at least I lurk there and it's easier if there's one common destination.

well, i managed to crash trillian twice trying to reconnect after i got dropped, would someone explain how to connect? especially if anyone knows hot to do it with trillian, that would be great!

use mirc (mirc.com)

1) click on the options button (second from left)
2) click on "Add" button
3) enter the following in the fields
Description: Apolyton
IRC Server: apolyton.net
Port: 6667
and then click on "Add"
4) click on "Connect to IRC Server"

Okay, here's detailed instructions for Trillian (version 0.74)...

1. Open "Connection Manager."

2. Choose IRC as "Chat Medium."

3. Press the "Add" button.

4. Fill in the fields like below (example):



After that, press "OK."

5. Fill in the rest of the boxes like following (example):



And finally press "Set nick on all servers."

6. Click "Connect."

7. Now the gray icon will indicate that you're connected to settler.apolyton.net.

8. Right click the IRC icon and choose "Toggle Status Window."

9. Now the connection window has been opened. You can use any normal IRC commands as usual.



10. If you want to enter the #apolyton channel, type "/join #apolyton." In th case you want to see a list of channels available and how many users they have, you can retrieve the channel list by pressing the "List Channels" like below. Then press the "Get list!" button. Voilá!





Hint: By double clicking a channel name, you will automatically join it.

11. Finally at the #apolyton channel. Now you can start talking.



12. When you want to leave the channel, just close the chat window. If you want to close the connection to the ACS IRC server, just type "/quit" or right click at the gray IRC icon in the main window of Trillian and choose "Disconnect."

Its working, and is good.

Questions:

Is this going to replace the current chatroom? If so, does this lighten the server load? If not, what is it going to be used for? Will it add to the server load? Can this have more users online than the board chat and is that why the creation?
