Either one is good for me just as long as we make a decision.
I saw an advert for the programme you mentioned but i cant find it in the listings, unless its Fred Dibnah's Magnificent Monuments

Yep its not in SAP, although its very nice, having them in a row like that reminds me of a coat rack or a set of shower curtain rings.
Looks like we may need a flag poll afterall.

Ive been using gifs all this time, its okay unless you want to paste in something with higher colours it doesnt look exact, but all you have to do is increase the depth to 24bit then paste it in and save it as a gif again, itll ask to reduce the colour depth again but it doesnt look half as bad.
I use PSP too, version 4 woohoo

Why do they always broadcast the best programs on BBC Choice or Channel 4 when I can only get BBC1, BBC2 and BBC World? |
Well apparantly their stock soldier had no armour,no helmet - just a big shield and a spear. And the bit they mentioned was their real short fall was that they had no missile weapons at all. Apparantly their neighbours from the east(siam or vietnam?) were a little better armed at the final big war, and sacked the whole city dragging of the god-king and his household(including his 50 concubines!!), and Angkor-wat never really recoverd after that. I'm not sure how old this doc was so it might be out of date a bit?
And the fact they had converted to buddism as you mentioned, seemed to make them want to be more peacefull - shame that they had been beating up on their neighbours for so long - they weren't ready to forget the past so easily.
Usually BBC2 is pretty good for these kind of Docs, BBC1 has gone downhill trying to beat ITV at dumb-tv, but still has the occaisional good doc(usually nature related), and suprisingly both Chl4 and Chl5 seem to do good history related Docs amidst all the T+A/and 'real-life' tv dross!!
So do we get to vote for a flag?(and if we do can it be incorparated into the actual game/screen shots we might get?) Or is this all largely irrelevant to a Democracy game??
@SMIFFGIG
In PNG they used to eat human brains, and if you speak to some of the old people they will wave up into the jungle and say that some of the bushfolk still do........

The Khmer, not having any missile weapons? You *must* be joking? They used archers, crossbowmen, elephant-mounted javelineers, siege weapons, etc... Although the core of all SE Asian armies was formed by Infantry, they are all famous for their elephants and their archery, the Khmer are no exception. From what I've read every single battle carving from Angkor includes bowmen of some kind (the ones I've seen certainly do), so documentary was grossly mistaken on that.
In the time period you mention, Angkor Wat was only sacked by the enemy from the west, not the east: Ayuttaya (Thailand/Siam), so that's not quite right either. In that time period, the Thai were not significantly better armed than the Khmer - or at least all my sources seem to stress that all SE Asian armies were of roughly the same quality and that because of this the outcome of battles was usually determined by army size more than anything else.
The Khmer converted from a Hinduism - Mahayana Buddhism mix to Theravada Buddhism, so they were already partly-Buddhist before the conversion. And when it comes to state religions, Buddishm is by not an awful lot more peaceful than Hinduism, or any other religion for that matter. The main problem with abolishing Hinduism was that the king was now just a king, no longer a god-king. Obeying him was less important than before and Khmer kings had a harder time getting their subjects to follow their commands (not only did warfare take a turn for the worse, very little impressive construction work was done in this period as well: it was no longer necessary to build any massive buildings to house the living god).
And until their decline, the Khmer most warred against the Annam, Mon, Champa, Burmese and Javans, the Thai (who eventually defeated them) weren't their 'natural' enemies, they were the new kids on the block (migrated from present-day China) and didn't have many old scores to settle.
If your post here is representative for that documentary, I guess I'm not too sad I missed it after all (unless all my previous sources were crap)

Didnt Indiana Jones have to eat monkey brains on the Temple of Doom? I know its fictional but at least...
Back onto the subject of our flag, should we name which flag we like here then? Seeing as the entries have dried up slightly now, i think we've got enough to choose from.
