It creates an extra sense of atmosphere for me.
My main dislike with previous RTS games was the lack of governments, mainly because everything was so monotone. Governments create extra strategies, by penalizing certain aspects of your economy/empire. In EE, for example, none of that was there. You could follow similar AI strategies and win, no matter who you were, or what your economy was like. You could have just as well strictly built military-oriented structures throughout the entire game, with no penalties to morale or happiness to citizens.(Albeit, there was hardly any choice in the matter.) IMO, that sucks.
And is the only reason I still play TBS.
I hope Mr. Reynolds reconsiders, though I'm probably late in hoping for anything.

Propaganda,
How would you like to see governments and happiness play out in a RTS? Remember, you do not have time to manuver bars around to make sure people are happy or time to turn food into trade and thus give more luxuries to your people. So make a proposal on how you would like to see this incorporated. I have a few ideas myself but am wondering how exactly you would like to see it play out.

Anyone know if there’s any swordsman other than samurai?? I ask because I haven’t seen any Roman Centurions or foot soldiers from the Middle Ages. So does anyone have any info??

How is city buiding? Are you employing any strategy? Do you spread the buidings out or compact them? Do you look for defensive positions? How big of city have you made?

Thanks Markos! Air units are one of the things I want to hear about the most -- I just love playing with them . I'm happy to hear you seem to like 'em too -- bodes well for the future .
If it's possible (if not, I totally understand) could you post some screenshots/description of how you control air units? I've seen different games do it different ways -- from hitting a key to select a type of unit which can be launched out of a hanger to having each unit 'visible' and selectable on the landing pad. I'm more interested in how you select one than how you control it -- I know EE's airplane-selection system drove me mad - it was nearly impossible to select an individual plane (or even a type of plane from a given region) without adding a ton of time to how long it takes. I'm praying that the RoN developers have come up with some nifty way of doing this .
I do quite like what you've described so far, however. It sounds like the AI has an air strategy beyond "build lots of bombers and rush", and understands the strategic importance of air. The information about bombers and fighters not being instant weapons is also encouraging, though it'll probably prevent a tactic I've used very successfully in the past -- order up the airplanes to protect against attacking troops. (In reality, that's probably not a bad thing )
Anyway, thanks for all the detail . Apolyton's coverage of RoN, again, is totally awsome -- I always wanted the game badly, but I think I may have to preorder now .

What difficulty level are you playing at Markos in order that the AI was faster but let you catch up? I am assuming that there are various degrees to the AI's difficulty? How good is it in pressing its advantages? It seems that it had a good strategy, it just didn't finish you, and I am wondering why that happened.
