AI can smell submarines Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

It is well known that:
(a) the AI knows the location of all units
(b) the AI is attracted by ships with hidden nationality (privateers)

I set submarines to have hidden nationality. The AI seems to now be able to find my subs all too easily. It even uses bombers to hit my subs even though there were no enemy subs around to give away my location. Is it possible for the human player to bomb subs without fist locating them with his own subs?

Is the AI's ability to sniff out pirates compromising my submarines' stealth ability?

Well of course they are going to attack pirates on site. Wouldnt you? That is the diadvantage of privateers. They can attack anyone, and anyone can attack them (which is why you send frigates and ironclads to cover them when you aren't at war ^^

but the submarines are _supposed_ to be invisible. And indeed the AI's submarines ARE still invisible to me. So I though I would indeed "attack pirates on site [sic]" I can't see them if they are subs.

Like flies to honey.

Well...I can't speak for TG but the AI goes for hidden nat units like crazy, and often there's no way that the AI civ could've known the location w/o cheating.

If ya wanna cheat back, give the sub a transport ability and put a "non-hidden nationality" unit in it. You know, a regular unit. I've heard that the AI will not attack your hidden nat unit if it's carrying a reg unit.

In my first post you will notice that I said that the AI was using bombers against my sub. It is not possible to use a bomber against anything unless you have spotted it first with something else. There were no subs nearby so they hadn't spotted it that way. Had the AI used a fighter to do reconassance? perhaps. Are fighters even able to see subs?
