	Social Engineering discussion Increase Your PM Length

My term begins today. For the moment, since there isn't enough time to poll, we will stick with the status quo -- Democracy, Planned, and survival. But we have the capability to go to Wealth. We can also go to Free Market, and even back to Frontier if we need to.

What should be our social policy? Any thoughts?

I brought up the notion of wealth/planned in the CCCP's Workshop a while back... I wondered if such a combo was ethically defensible. A couple of folks made reasonable comments on its behalf. While I'd never agree voluntarily to wealth/FM, wealth/planned could do well for us.

Well, in general, I think at the stage of exploration and expansion we should resign from FM. It seems to me that the more polluting industry we set up, the more these... mind worms appear and attack our forces, and who knows, maybe even our colony modules.

At now, more centralised economy should be continued, allowing us to increase our population and capacities of our industry. Yes, maybe it's less efficient than FM, but I say research is not our priority at the moment.

Both planned and wealth support our current desire to expand and get new bases on their feet. At the moment, our ability to capture energy is restricted - that will change in the near future, at which point the effects of the inefficient planned economy will soon become more apparent.

When that happens, a switch to a free market economy will be quite worthwhile, and our society will be able to better absorb its drawbacks. The important thing is that our research must not be allowed to lag far behind our neighbors'.

I agree with Kirov and Lucky that we should leave FM for the moment. I think a switch to wealth would be benaficial, it aids constuction and the morale hit shoudlnt be to disasterous at the moment, althouhg i'd go for a switch to knowledge as soon as possible.

I would be careful to switch to knowledge, esp during the war with one of our neighbours (if there will be more than one). We can't allow others to steal our secrets or even raise riots in our empire, can we?

The solution to that is simply to station lots of probes in border bases, and expel or kill any enemy probe teams that are or appear to be heading toward our bases.

I agree w/GeneralTacticus. Kill off any probes coming our way.

As for our glorious empires' social engineering, stick to Democracy and Planned. I personally think we shouldn't switch to Wealth, but should wait for Knowledge to come our way and select it. I do not think we should switch to FM under any circumstance. I'm rather fearful that our Drone's rioting may be too much for us to handle.

Franky, once we pull the troops back, the only bases with even the potential to be troublesome will be NA and possibly TBIBTU, which can be dealt with via Psych.

I dunno, I just don't like other factions spying on our glorious government. In my experience, if another factions even catches one of my probes going into their territory, they declare Vendetta against me. I think we should do the same...

....well, maybe not go as far as Vendetta.

I suppose we could divide the DoEI into two directorates once we started building a lot of probe teams... However, this would leave Lemmy with a lot less authority, given that exploration is likely diminish in value as the game goes on and we gain access to toher factions' maps, and will eventually vanish altogether.

Yes, I was thinking that too. Especially if we build the EG (which I will be strongly supporting, once we get the tech... I've asked TKG to make that a priotity after we get the other techs we're after), exploration will take second place to intelligence gathering.

Alright, so Zak doesn't want to trade. What options does that leave us with? We probably can't "allow the freeflow of information" until its too late, so does Morgan have it up for offer?
