It's been a while since I last wrote a story, so I may be a little rusty.

This story is being written as a series of newspaper articles, etc., an idea I first discussed doing a long time ago. If there are large gaps of time between posts, forgive me. I am doing my best to work Apolyton into a busy schedule.

The Tribune --- October 1970 Edition
WAR LOOMS
Many Fear 1920 Recurrence

The world holds its breath as dignitaries from England and America travel to Berlin for a three day summit. Chancellor Bismarck, hoping to prevent further deterioration of the current situation involving the two superpowers, invited the heads of both countries to meet on neutral grounds to hopefully bring an end to the uneasy peace that has prevailed between America and England for the past three weeks.

What began as a minor dispute over mining rights unexpectedly escalated into what many feared would be a recurrence of the War of 1920, which split the Continent apart as America ordered its diplomats to leave England and stepped up its military exercises in the Northern Seas. England responded by closing its airports to all American flights and detaining nearly two hundred Americans, including fifty military personnel for over five hours before ordering them to leave.

Every country has agreed to send representatives to the Summit, which is expected to discuss a variety of issues, from the current American-England conflict to the growing problem of pollution.

Some doubt the effectiveness of such a summit. A top Persian government official said that America and England would do as it pleased, unless the other countries intervened "in a more serious nature...possibly militarily, in order to maintain the current peace...the [Berlin] summit, as described by Mr. Bismarck, lacks the strength to make any significant headway in the current situation."

As always, feedback is appreciated.

Well, I think it's a little short as of yet to give any useful feedback, but seems to me like an interesting beginning to a story. Do continue.

NATIONS MEET FOR BERLIN SUMMIT
Lincoln Demands English Concessions

As the Berlin Summit reaches its second day, the spectre of war continues to threaten the peoples of the world.

Arriving early Monday morning, an assassination attempt nearly ended the lives of three of the American delegates as they arrived at Berlin International Airport.

Three gunmen fired from the assembled crowd, critically wounding three of the representatives sent by the American Coalition Sovereign States. No evidence has been found to link the gunmen, who committed suicide, to any government or organization.

The summit continues, albeit under even greater security. Bismarck ordered the Berlin Home Guard on alert, the first time such an order has been given in fifty years.

As German troops patrolled the streets of Berlin, the delegates have continued to try and prevent a potential war between the colonial empires.

Within the fortified bastion of the Chancellor's private estate, the delegates quickly fell into camps, as each country sided with either the English Republic or the ACSS.

Fifteen separate recesses were called on the first day of the summit, as the England delegate prepared to leave after the American ambassador announced Chairman Lincoln's list of demands, which included, among other things, territorial concessions and financial reparations.

While many are beginning to view the summit as a failure, Bismarck continues to be optimistic that war can be prevented.

"Man's greatest achievements do not spring forth from war. It is not on the battlefield where man finds solutions...only pain, and suffering. The nations of the world must not give in to that terrible devil, War. We must stand tall. We, as statesmen, must prove to ourselves and to the world that we are better, that we are greater than that plague which has always been our bane...", said Bismarck, addressing the delegates and the throng of people who waited outside the estates's gate as the summit first began.

The world continues to be optimistic, despite the lack of progress shown by the delegates. As the summit approaches it's third and final day, the American and English militaries remain at high states of alert. Thousands have fled the Southern Island colonies in fear of a possible war in which their homes would become a battlefield.

Meanwhile, Persia and Egypt have both announced their intentions to temporarily halt their joint-Star Outreach Space Program, which was scheduled to launch in fourteen months. The spokesperson for Queen Cleopatra told reporters that the program would be put on hold until the "current crisis was well in hand."

ENGLAND DEMANDS AMERICA RELINQUISH CLAIMS
Lincoln Orders Blockade

Chairman Lincoln has declared a total naval blockade of the York Islands in direct violation of the Berlin Accords, an agreement signed by all nations except America and Persia. The blockade, which will be in effect tomorrow, was ordered by Lincoln immediately after the Berlin Summit.

After labeling the Berlin Accords as a biased agreement favorable only to England in a national address, he announced his intentions to blockade the York Islands until England accepted his proposed concessions.

At the center of this conflict, the York Islands are England's primary source of coal and rubber. America gained possession of the Islands in 1921, but was later pressured into giving them back to England.

The blockade, when initiated, would cut off England's supply of coal and rubber, which makes up a significant portion of the English economy.

Persia, which before has been a discreet ally of America, is now taking a more prominent role as Lincoln's sole ally.

In a public statement released earlier today, President Xerxes condemned England for it's lack of cooperation and held it responsible for the deteriorating relationships between the world's superpowers. He then met with the Persian Assembly in a closed-door emergency session.

---------------

Sorry to have to cut this one short.

Lemme know what you think.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Here's what I had time to write.

------------------------------------------

Conflict Escalates

In what appears to be the beginnings of the first military conflict since 1923, four thousand Egyptian Marines were dispatched to serve as a semi-international peacekeeping force, a military force which will also include twelve thousand English troops.

Queen Elizabeth announced the formation of the peacekeeping force after a massive demonstration in London. Protestors filled the streets in protest of their Government's lack of action concerning the American blockade of York Islands, and the announced American air patrol.

In her weekly address, Cleopatra pledged Egypt's unconditional support of England, and again denounced Lincoln for placing the world in its current position.

"The world can never know the peace...it was once acquainted with...until he [Lincoln] accepts the Berlin Accords. War is all that will come of his reckless programme, and he must know: Egypt will not allow him to terrorize and bully the world into giving him what he wants."

However, despite repeated warnings, America has shown no intentions of backing down; in fact, America has stepped up it's military involvement by announcing a twenty-four hour air patrol over the disputed mining colonies.

With the two day naval blockade, life on the island has literally ground to a halt. Faced with potential rioting, the governor ordered the two thousand-strong York Militia on alert as the island's government began distributing rationed food to overwhelmed Emergency Response Centers.

The ERCs, normally tasked with providing aid in the aftermath of a natural disaster, has been busy preparing for the food shortage, expected within the next two weeks, when the real effects of the blockade will be felt.

"The York Islands have almost no capacity for producing food of it's own. For the past fifty years, it has relied on the Motherland and other countries to provide it's food...now all of a sudden, they are finding themselves cut off from their source of food, their source of almost everything," said Mark Edgar, CEO of International Shipping. "Without some kind of outside assistance, those people are going to be starving before the month ends."
