Indeed Winston. An amazing victory for the President, especially considering his unprecedented stumping for candidates in the midterm election which people said might end up hurting him.

Of course they did not take into account that Bush is the most popular politician in many of the states he visited. It was true for Georgia and that is why the Republicans swept here.

Yes many saw it as kind of a gamble on Bush' part to campaign so heavily so close to the elections, and I think it was to some extent, but apparently he knew what he was doing. One of his forces is that Dems continue to underestimate his political and strategic abilities. If they keep it up he can go a long way...

Mondale lost for the first time ever running for anything in Minnesota. Even in the 1984 49-state landslide Reagan took home, Minnesota still marginally voted for Mondale. Not this time though.

Actually, having lived in the State for 30-odd years, I would say that the Democrats poor showing was more of a result of the voters getting tired of the good-old-boy Democratic network. Even Tom Murphy lost his seat!!!
