Apollo, hover dam and Seti

I firmly oppose building the manhatton project, not for the "green peace" philosophy but becouse as soon as this is built the AI hits super cheat mode and will streamline to rocketry. (and usually in half the time it should take)

Then we have Nukes mysteriously appearing over our cities that require no AI support. and can instantly attack anything without SDI. All that war will cut into our space exploration and thus couse too many (IMO) delays in our true quest, reach the stars and let these other idiot civs kill each other.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I agree no Manhattan Project. We don't need it to get fusion power for a spaceship, and we *shouldn't* need it for offense or defense. What we need is production and techs.

All but Manhattan.
UN for diplomacy, JSB Cath and Women Suffrage or Cure for cancer for happiness.
SETI (if not too late) for research in all the coties (we have no science city for Newton's).

Put an end to popups!

Definitely no Manhattan. If a hostile Civ wants to start building it, target that city so that its production ceases. No nukes is good nukes.

Cure for Cancer is good to have but not always vital to victory. Once we get Hoover everything kicks into high gear!

I disagree with the no Manhattan sentiment but I will go along with the wishes of the majority.

However, I think that we should choose either Sufferage or Cure but not both. I really don't see the need for two happiness wonders.

Suffrage is not verry good for the typo of game we're playing, in demo we still get 1 unhappy person for every unit away from home.

S.T. would be a lot better imo as it lets us have an army/navy that can go anywhere without unhappyness.

No UN either, I thought we wanted a challenge in this game?

Generally I play for conquest, hence I go for Manhattan as long as I'm enough techs ahead so that no-one else can build Nukes, then erase them from the planet in a Nuclear Holocaust (subtlety just ain't me!). However in this game the objective is spaceships. If you focus on making all of your cities size 8 or more, and you have Mike's Chapel, you may find you can get by without another happiness wonder, as you can generate enough luxuries to keep your cities happy - it's only smaller cities that tend to suffer.

Therefore focus on Hoover. By the time you get SETI, you're almost at the end of the tech progress anyways.

John has raised a very interesting point here. Vis the threat to our capital. Although it happens rarely, the AI can sometimes get a good offensive going (generally causing a fair degree of mayhem), considering we do not have a large military force that can neither react rapidily nor defend against much, perhaps we should consider moving our capital to a more defensible location. I will be starting a separate thread to discuss this issue.

Go for all except Cure For Cancer and Manhattan.
CfC= comes very late in the game(for me it does) so it has limited use
Manhattan= If the AI wants nukes => let it build it itself , we will then be tossing the nukes if neccesary.

At least we should build Appolo, UN(so the AI has to leave us alone "more") and Hover Dam(really need the production.

atomant?...yeah, that was probably a silly atempt to make a joke ...the AI doing a serious attack we wouldn't expect? on our Capital?
The 1 in a googolplex chance that something like that could happen even in an imaginairy world...our next step would most probably be whipping them out accidentaly
If the Japanese would keep annoying us and we take over their empire the minimum distance between an enemy city and our capital would at least double...not even an AI-nuke could cross such a distance(way to many other cities to attack...

Maybe I've been playing too many OCC's lately but:

NO Manhattan Project.

We don't need nukes.
We don't want to spend precious $$ on SDI's

NO Women's Suffrage.
AFAIK, we have a decent city base,
and if we need more, we have room to build our own
cities. No need to pound annoying enemies with units
homed from our cities.

NO to UN. Our security lies in 40+ Riflemen-in-training.
The AI won't sue for peace if we start taking a large lead.

YES to CfC- helps for WLtPD on Diety.
Corporation and Medicine allows CfC, as we are
already researching Medicine, we can get this quite
early to be of real benefit in the space race.

YES to all the others.
Order of importance.
SETI (Faster tech research)
HD (Great productivity bonus)
Apollo (Necessary)

BUT- if we are going for points-
BUILD ALL WONDERS

I have played like this many times (makes for great fun and quite the stress reliever ) Unfortunatly we are not that far ahead in tech and the civ right behind us would love to nuke us into obliivian.

In that case I agree, avoid Manhattan, but start building a Wonder well in advance of Electronics becoming available, then switch to Hoover as soon as we've discovered it.

I'll just have to live with the stress and high blood pressure.
