	Election Nomination for First Term Under New Con Support Apolyton

Elections for our new government under our New Constitution will begin on November 12th. There are only four elected offices, so this election should be one of the most interesting ones to date.

Candidates need to announce their intention to run prior to the 12th, as The Court will create the election threads and they need to know who's running before the elections start.

At this time I do not intend to run for another term as Foreign Affairs Minister, however, I may change my mind if no one else steps forward. I enjoy this work and have a desire to continue working as our FAM, but I don't want to become an institution that needs to be beaten out of office. So if someone else has the desire to take this vitally important and extremely rewarding position, please speak up. You may also PM me with questions, etc.

Well I have enjoyed SMC very much, but I think it is time to let somebody else have all the fun, so I do not intend to run again. However, I will not be leaving you. I hereby announce my candidacy for the 1st President of the 2nd Republic.

Personally, I do currently intend to run for anything elected for the first term under the New Con I think I'd like to take that first term to see what I can do in the Senate (might change my mind if PTW is such a distraction that few people stand up for positions, though).

As I slowly regain conscousness, I think it is kinda a good thing Thud. Move on over to the Dark Side. It's kinda fun. Elvis and Jimmy Hendrix are over here, warming up for tonights concert. Lots of delicious Deep Fried Finger Foods, all you can eat, and the Women.... well, lets not go there until after you have converted. In the mean time, plan on taking all those lovely greek cities, will you please. I want to get the ivory market cornered, and they are so lightly defended at the moment.

I hope that we shall have a gentlemanly military commander who is fierce in battle, yet uses force as the last chosen means rather than the default means of pursuing Apolyton's interests! Additionally, we might even be able to hope that Thud, as SMC, might be able to tame the warriors into respecting something of a code of honor in battle rather than looting, pillaging, raping, eating babies, and causing general mayhem when taking over the cities of our enemies... as we'd honestly prefer to take enemy cities FULLY INTACT rather than as the ruined pieces of refuse our warriors have typically left them...

Nothing at all as long as it isn't in my house, and so far due to our excelent military it never has been. Thud, please do not let these measures of our army go to the side. I don't know if Thud has fallen for the glory of war but I suspect it has more to do with using his position of power to ensure that we have a Pax Apolytonia, but either way, this is a VERY interesting.

Thanks OPD for your support, it truly gives a sense of well being to be so honored by one of the ex-presidents.
As for the possiblity of thud being SMC. I am sure he will honor the will of the people and if the people approve war he will carry it out to the fullest extent. Remember even though I will not be SMC, I can propose, for public analysis, plans of war and if the senate approves they must be carried out. However, remember I too was a reluctant warrior only fighting when absolutely necessary and look what we accomplished when I was SMC. I can only hope I can be as good a president as the people who held this job previously, the bar has been set very high indeed. I will confess though that my two deputies had to revive me when I heard the news that thud was running.

I'm still deciding weather to run for the FAM. Though I'd like to, it would take up a large chunk of time, even with significant delegation. Furthermore, if I did delegate liberally (which could be necessary for me to meet the obligations of the role), I'm afraid that the position would be little more than a figurehead unless there was a dispute, and I don't want to currupt the intent of the NewCon only weeks after it has been passed.

I will make my decision within the next few days, based on who else is running and personal thought.

Just a general statement so people know I've seen the thread.

Yeah, no-one is running for FAM at the moment... I think the reason is that a lot of people are suddenly more interested in PTW jobs

ANy chance of getting this thread topped? Or is it not official since I don't see a list of offices and those who are running for them.

It's a new Con and we need some clarification on what's available and who is running for what.

There are only four offices up for election:
President
Supreme Military Commander
Domestic Minister
Foreign Affairs Minister

Vice President will be nominated by the President-elect.
All other offices will be appointed positions by either President or Domestic Minister

I'm not sure if the Court wants to start an official thread or not. Per the rules of the New Con, the Court presides over and runs elections.

I will run again for Foreign Affairs Minister if no other candidates step forward.

I'm running for Domestic Minister.

But , if elected I will DEFINITELY want some Deputy Ministers to spread out the work because it would be virtually impossible for me to do all of the Domestic work by myself and would take a lot of the Democracy out or Apolytonia in my opinion.

Since this first minister under the NewCon will set precedents for City Naming, City Planning, Public Works, and many other systems, I feel it is highly important the position is filled by someone who can relate to all of the above and effective deputies that excell in those areas will make the success of the NewCon more likely.

I realize there is a great temptation to quit this game and move on to PTW (I feel it too) but think of all of the time and effort we have invested into Apolytonia. Now, is the time to finish this game with style, not abandon it into oblivion.

If elected I definitely see the establishment of a Vice Minister of City Planning, with Regional Governors under him.

Also, a Department of Geography, with a Secretary for Mapping, and one for Naming.

I would like to formally second and show my support for GhengisFarb for Domestic Minister. His proposals for setting up empowered Secrataries and Deputies RA is a must when the position of DM was created with such broad and sweeping powers.

I would also like to express my concern with ET getting the position. As a RA under him during this last term, I have seen many oppertunities squandered because he was unwilling to relinquish any of the authority bestowed upon him. He takes on too much and doesn't allow others to help. If he wins this position, the Official Apolyton CivIII Single Player Democracy Game will quickly turn into ET's Official Apolyton CivIII Single Player Game.

Now please don't think that I am completely debunking ET. He is amazingly organized, extremely hard working and is incredible with spreadsheets. I worry about his inability to delagate authority, but feel that he would make an excellent Deputy of anything.

GF, on the other hand, is extremely bull headed but has proven time and again that he will not only listen to others, but will also delegate his powers. Gf is also an EXTREMELY talented graphical person (I do not know how good he is at organizing spreadsheets) and always gets his orders in in not only a timely manner, but well ahead of schedual so others may look at and discuss them.

PS- Khufu was my Protege in my 1st Knight Divison. He often talked about how useful he thought an Army of the new Cavalry Divisions would be. I think that is what he wants to do.
