As likely as Spain saying to Morocco- 'oh, here's Ceuta and Melilla- sorry we've had them for so long, you can have them back now.'

The Falklands War- as Borges said, two bald men fighting over a comb. Although I never understood how the avowedly left wing Socialist Worker Party were behind the idea of territory being occupied by a military dictatorship. It seems loathing of Thatcher replaced logic and reason.

That's because Deng was such a badass, he scared the hell out of Maggie who proceeded to fall on her face right outside the People's Hall (or whatever it is called in English). It all went downhill from there.

Thankfully, cuisine and culture aren't synonymous. So the Brits can still claim great culture.

If Spain invaded Gibraltar, the SAS, British Marines would cream the Spanish forces. Every one knows the SAS is the best fighting force in the world. No questions asked. Even better than that American special forces.

To actually comment on the topic, I have a good friend that lives in Cadez, and he told me some interesting things about this, for example, there is a town outside of Gibraltar (can't remember the name) that the decendents of the Spanish forced out of Gibraltar live in, and they dream of having the land of the their ancestors back.

It's not surprising the vote went as it did, the people living there (Gibraltar) all came from britain, are British by ancestry, and have few ties to Spain outside of location, so what to do?

As for the Falklands, they were NEVER Argentinian, when Britain claimed them there was NO Argentina, it belonged to Spain, and they never claimed the islands before the British.
The people living there are all British, but UNLIKE Gibraltar, there are no displaced decendents.

Hong Kong should NEVER have been British, it was a Chinese city stolen during Britain's Imperial era.

American Special Forces may not be as badass, but they can call in a hell of a lot more firepower that the SAS. We're Americans after all, the creators of the consumer culture.

Britain...

What other country could come up with names like Tooting Bec, or a game like cricket, which spends 3 day playing without even seeming to start? Who else would stick mops on their judges heads, make their Lord Chancellor sit on a Woolsack, and honour a naval hero whos dying wish was to be kissed by a dude named Hardy. Who else could give us Shakespeare, Pork Pies, Open University and that Gardeners Question Time program

What an confusion Britain is! Here's a country which fought and won a noble war, defended its territory and- in short- do almost everything right, and then look on itself as a chronic faliure for the rest of the century. Britain is quite a unique country, and the Bristish culture will never, ever die.

Lurker sighting!

This was a troll aimed at Fez, and shows why lurkers should either participate in OT so they know what the hell is going on, or just shut up and stay the hell out of OT...

How ironic, we could level the same claims at the existence of your entire nation. What happened to those poor native Americans before the US? Give America back to the natives!

Silly isn't it. How long ago was it these people were removed? 200 years? Sheesh...

If we are going to give Gibraltar back, it should really go back to the Moors who were there before the Spaniards. No?

The Moors were kicked out of Spain but were there for centuries... they brought good ideas and tolerance but that order is long gone. But Spain belongs to Spain... Gibraltar is part of Spain and will always be. You cannot pull the rock out of the Iberian Penisula. It will always be our's.
