we have a lot of new technologies and i think it is about time to start building stronger units then scout patrols and stuff. also what to do with the hive on a military point of view?

The best investment we can make in our long-term defense is the Citizen's Defense Force. To that end, we should make crawlers rather than upgraded garrisons for the time being. Once we've crawler-rushed the CDF, we can start making troops. Alternately, make a Command Center in one city, and build base garrisons there (rehoming when needed).

If the Hive declares war, we will eventually need an attack force. However, at this stage there are enough other pressing priorities, like building up our infrastructure, so that I don't think it would be worthwhile.

i think that upgrading our current defense force can be done together with the crawler need and the building of infrastructere need we have around the 400 Ec we can upgrade a lot of them after we prototyped the first ones...

Aaaaah, the enemy of Democracy has surfaced . . .

to Adam - a centralized (high production and CC) base for building defenders allows other bases to continue normal production unimpeded. I agree that continued infrastructure building is preferable to faction-wide construction of defensive units. At the same time, we should consider delaying armor prototyping until we can build plasma units (much better against impact than synthmetal) - depending upon when he might arrive.

The CDF will be useful if we think the Hive will arrive with numbers. Can we be so sure of that? What about trying to get Maritime Control Center instead and destroy his invaders on the high seas?

I take it we haven't called up Yang yet (no poll on what to do with/ to him)? That will give us valueable insight to his military capabilities - I suggest we hold off on too much speculation about our path until we know what he can do. He may not even have boats yet . . .

Yes, we should go for the CDF. Remember, the Hive is still some distance away, so we don't need to worry just yet, though this would be a good time to start preparing our military. A centralized barracks (i.e. a base for unit production) would be good, but we would have to make sure it had the infrastructure it needed before it really got going, or else intersperse it between unit builds (I think the latter idea sounds better, myself).

EDIT: forgot that we already have Intellectual Integrity.
