Most NATO special forces train together quite often and are generally considered pretty much on par.

Some of the ones to get my nod: Navy SEALS, SAS, Australian SAS, Canada's JTF2....but it's pretty much a pick 'em.

Man for man, you gotta like the USAF commandos - they don't work in teams, but rather can be dropped into any group (like they did in Afghanistan with the Northern Alliance) or work solo.

The best one is definitely Lithuanian "YPT"/"Aitvaras" .

Russian Specnaz is far from best times currently, also, currently much more people than special forces uses Specnaz logo and that makes the organisation not such prestige as other special forces (all other special forces have limited number of people (but goodly trained), not thousands of them (but avaragly trained).

Delta is one of the best in my opinion. They also probably gets real world missions more often because USA gets to deal with terrorism quite ussually.

I honestly think, that the toughest forces comes from a small country that has been in a war for a long time.. on and off kind of war. They've been growing up in war, they know what it's all about, and they must be good if they have survived and are in special forces. Plus their motivation must be excellent.

some croatian special forces fit into this description. small country but veteran expirience really counts, I heard some amazing stories

motivation (defensive war for homeland) was probably in 1991-1995 unmatched even by israelis

nowadays they are well trained, but I dont think we could use them to project power to a distance, like british with SAS

if we get attacked again though ..

quote:
.. but the toughest are not loud and market themselves. They just keep quiet and are just mean hardcore killers. They're the kind that kills the village for fun and take the babies to fill their snackpacks for later BBQ. They don't like tea!

we got those too you described what they do pretty accurately (how did you know? :eek

I know you meant it as a joke, but the real special forces detest being compared to those *******s that burn villages etc. they create a bad face for the army, for the war, and for the country

Got spare money?

vetlegion, I can tell you how I know this, but then I'd have to kill you..

I'd put my money on those Croatian forces too. They have all the elements of having tough special troops. I've read some books about their war, and they're supposed to be top. Sometimes overkills happens, but it comes with the job I guess..

Also Israel fits into my key elements criteria. We all know they have effective special forces.

Axi, I love Rambo! He's the main man. I mean if you like comedy. I just watched that part II too. My favourite part is when he flies the chopper, firing at least 20 rockets to the village, and then he does it what makes him all man.. he goes to the center of the village about 10 feet from the ground, does 360 and fires with the miniguns at the same time killing the last ones. A true classic. And what about after that? He has a combat with another chopper and he does the wounded animal thing and flies to the river, pretending to be crashed and hurt! Oh my God that's brilliant, and then suddenly he wakes up, fires his bazooka, never mind the POWs in the back of the chopper.. I could go on and on about it, it's one of my all time favourite movies.
John 'i am all that is man' Rambo forever!

ps. do you know any other guy who fires m-60 with one hand, feeding bullets with other hand?

Just curious, how does one measure the quality of certain special forces when probably most of their actions arenīt known in public?

And to join the "my country has the best" orgy - Iīd say the GSG 9

They didnt have a high kill rate Pekka. How many bad guys did you see the A-Team actually kill? They all crawed out from underneath their car or jumped at the last second.

SD, True . If you are good enough to get into special forces, then you must have a motivation and need for action. What's the point of being elite troops and train and train but never get to put it in use?

And even if they haven't seen action, they do lots of research and simulate action in very real way.. it's not the same but it is the next best thing.
I wonder how they can check if someone is likely to freeze in combat from those who can do their job in such high stressing situation..

It's hard to say who's the "best" but we can certainly say who has the best trained and equiped special forces.

I'll let the rest of you guess who it is...
