What WERE the Ultimate Civ II and First Greek Civ Site anyways? Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

I don't know if this has been answered before or anything, but I quickly checked the faqs and could not find the answer-what WERE the Ultimate Civilization II Site and the First Greek Civilization Site?

I mean, aside from what their name says, were they notable for anything? Like being ultra-cool or ultra-big like Apolyton is ?

Like, what were their URLs, so someone really bored could look up an old page of them on archive.org? (archive.org is this place that archives old versions of webpages, sometimes I go to it when I'm bored, )

History of the Ultimate CivII site:

Also, I believe there's a bunch of history of the site discussed in this interview with DanQ:

Part 2

Neither of them were as big as Apolyton has become. Partly because Markos and Dan together are able to add such a viewer friendly website. That and as the Internet has grown so has Apolyton.

Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

It was a classic case of one plus one equals 3. Both were good sites with loyal followers, but after the merger, things really took off.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Well, I have today stated a suggestion of a conservation project for old Civ related websites. material and files, but I hardly believe Dan and Markos are interested in preserving history. I also proposed a special Christmas thngy about the history of the Civ community, but I guess we can forget that too.

So, have a tour back in time with the Internet Archive's WayBack Machine to year 1998 when Poly was young and Ultimate Civilization II Site and First Greek Civilization 2 Website still existed.

ACS (apolyton.net): http://web.archive.org/web/*sa_/http://apolyton.net
ACS (civilization.gamestats.com): http://web.archive.org/web/*sa_/htt...n.gamestats.com
UC2S (civ2.gamestats.com): http://web.archive.org/web/*sa_/htt...2.gamestats.com
TFGC2 (only this page is left ): http://egnatia.ee.auth.gr/~markg/tfgc2s/1st.html

The Internet Archive only has one rollup of Dan's site and none of Markos' site, but maybe that's what left still gives you a good insight into the history of Poly. One final word. No old forum postings have been indexed by Internet Archive's WayBack Machine, so you can't unfortunately check how e.g. Ming has scared people to death in the early days of Poly.

It's a little OT for the thread but while you brought it up, question: What's the worst thing an Apolyton forum-er (that your allowed by your lawyer to talk about) has done to get perma-banned?
If that question places you in siezures, 's ok. Just wondering
