Opera 7 Beta Released Remove this text

Yay, the beta of Opera 7 has been released and it is mighty cool. Note the navigation toolbar in the screenshot that is compiled from LINK elements by the browser, the site icons in the window bar, and the rest of the leet stuff.

Markos / Dan have to take care of ANOTHER browser when they put new stuff on the site

I wish all those browsers would be gone and everybody would use MSIE 6.0.
It would make the web a better place!

Alternatively, Microsoft could start complying to W3C standards itself...

AFAICS MS does comply to W3C, but gives more options.
And I really hope not that those cool MS code options will be removed.

If you like it or not doesn't matter, fact is indeed that MSIE is the standard right now. about 90% of the people uses it. (if not more)

Here's an idea: Instead of *****ing that IE isn't fully W3C compliant because it offers a SUPERSET of the W3C standards, IMPLEMENT WHAT IE ALREADY IMPLEMENTS.

I don't know why it's such a foreign concept to these people, but hey...

No, it doesn't. It offers an INTERSECTING SET with W3C standards and the half that does match conflicts in implementation with what would make logical sense.

Uh, have you tried developing Java applets for Explorer? I thought so. Supporting Java 1.1 is as good as not supporting it at all.

Asher,

If you find Mozilla to be bloated (which it is since its a developement platform), give Pheonix a try. Super fast with the features that IE are missing for me.

The IE extensions, by and large, existed well before the W3C implemented their HTML standards and then people complain that IE doesn't conform.

IE renders some things differently than W3C says to. The majority of people use IE, IE has been doing those things before the W3C standardized them, why should IE change?

Who died and made W3C God?

It's not just that, it's how Opera's support is so horribly implemented. Not just Java, but JavaScript.

(I didn't know you were into Java development, St. Leo, how many years have you done it? And your comment about supporting Java 1.1 is as good as not supporting it at all is complete bunk -- don't play those stupid games. Java 1.4 isn't much of an improvement at all, and Sun has STILL yet to make a virtual machine as fast as the MS VM)

Aye, agreed! Here is a direct download link for Phoenix (it doesn't even require installation, just extract and run!)

The IE extensions, by and large, existed well before the W3C implemented their HTML standards and then people complain that IE doesn't conform.

Implemented? Are you referring to the final specifications? To Amaya?

In most of the instances, they came to exist in Explorer after a draft describing them was submitted to the W3C and the committee, of which Microsoft is a member, began polishing it. Microsoft itself supports/pretends to support the W3C.

Who died and made W3C God?

They are a standards body. They have the backing of all the major players, except that Microsoft backs them and then ignores what they have to say.

It's not just that, it's how Opera's support is so horribly implemented. Not just Java, but JavaScript

What are you talking about? JavaScript is built into Opera and you need the JRE for Java.

(I didn't know you were into Java development, St. Leo, how many years have you done it?

I've been playing with it off and on for a couple years and have begun studying it at the University level.

And your comment about supporting Java 1.1 is as good as not supporting it at all is complete bunk -- don't play those stupid games. Java 1.4 isn't much of an improvement at all,

Eh? I consider Swing and RegEx to be integral parts of the Java language. The fact that my university still only has the 1.2 JDK installed ticks me off to no end.

and Sun has STILL yet to make a virtual machine as fast as the MS VM)

They should have open-sourced the JVM a long time ago. What are they gaining by keeping it closed?
