This might be a good place to make a simple statement of choices, rather than just an anonymous vote. That could help us see the direction of consensus without sorting through many words.
So without wasting more words: Iroquois, Egypt, Celts, in that order. [Edit. scratch Celts. Neither Ind nor Exp].
Sorry alva, but it saves the making of a new thread.

Hm, my choices are quite different from the norm, but maybe I'll convince some of you along the way!
1. Americans
Expansionist-Industrious, the best MP traits; when used together, these traits guarantee a strong early-game. The lack of a significant UU is can be seen as an advantage since the human opponents will have to play a very reactive game. For instance, playing against the Iroquois it is easy guess when their major offensive will be; as the Americans, any agressive strategy is largely "formless" (in terms of unit composition and timing). Of course, this means the GA needs to be triggered via judicious selection of Wonders, presumably Colossus and Hanging Gardens/Pyramids.
2. Aztecs
JWs are so good that it doesn't really matter if the opponents are expecting them, they will work anyway. My only worry here is that the Expanionist trait is not as strong with JWs around, and I don't consider Religious to be *that* strong (I know, shoot me now!).
3. China
Combined strong early-game (Industrious trait and Warrior Code free) with amazing middle-game UU...heck, I don't need to sell this one, do I?
Note that my choices are heavily affected by a general disdain for culture.

OK. That's 12 out of 14 active members accounted for. Theseus has said any is fine with him, so he likely skipped this. Randolph is the only other person unaccounted for.
I think we should put up Egypt, Iroquois, Persia, China, Aztecs, and America in a rate them 1, 2, 3 poll by post.
If we assign 3 points to a first choice, 2 points to a second, and 1 point to a third then we can arrive at some value based ranking to base our selections on.
We have to remember that our first choice is not automatically ours. Another team may claim it and we may not win the rock, paper, scissors contest. Therefore, our second choice (and third) can be equally important to our first.
