Thoughts on technology strategy Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

If we are not to have any AI players in this game, then I forsee a possible technological Vacume forming.

With the strategy that has gotten the C3DG to where it is today, if it is followed by most of the teams, then it will take forever to get out of the first age. I have no idea what the other civs are planning for their research, but if the people who are more for buying (or taking through force) their way up the technology ladder are true to form, then their might be problems in the coming months.

As with military strategy, we need to work out what we need to have for our research goals and how we want to work on the tech tree.

If Legoland does work at it, they will most likely be the tech leader. We will have the culture for happiness and larger productive cities. THe more milataristic Civs will want to stay in Despotic & Monarchial states for longer periods of time, possibly bypassing Rep/Dem all together.

I forsee possible short wars (tech grabs) that will be for some quick technological advancement, if not for other prizes.

I am hoping for some coordination with Legoland in regards to our research pact with them. We can double our research rates if we agree to both go on the high end. Or each stay at a medium pace researching separate lines, trade up, and remain on par with our enemies while still netting a profit from moderate spending as opposed to 80-90%. I think this needs to be worked out in more detail if only to assure them that we are committed to keeping up our end of the deal and not falling behind them technologically; if we did, the tech trades might start to seem unbalanced and could result in unhappy faces

I don't see how dropping research to nothing is gonna be possible against other humans. We are able discern the value of a tech lead and the advantage of denying another team the knowledge.... of course, then they just take all that saved up cash and dump it into military units to take what we won't give them

it'll be a tightrope, I'm sure

We should keep a 40-50% research AS LONG AS IT IS BENIFICIAL to do so. If it takes 40 turns on 10%, 20 turns on 40% and 18 turns on 50% so on and so forth.... lets just keep things rather middle of the road. Money is good for three things only. Diplomicy, Rushing and Upgrading. As we are also comercial... and Diplomicy is probably out.... well, we have the room.

Personally, while in Despotism, I only use money for only diplomacy. In the early game there is little upgrading to do (other than warrior - swordsman) and all rushing is done via pop-rush.

If we can come to an agreement with the builders about tech researching (of course, we can't trade anything with them until our two civs have met), we can both research at a much higher level than 60% and RAPIDLY advance, perhaps going straight to Feudalism & Chivalry for the military advantage, then going back and researching our gov of choice.

In despotism population = production = power. I intend to be a slave driver as your despot. I want RAPID growth and am willing to sacrifice a few slaves to rush our development. I'm 99% sure the enemy will do the same.

Tired of ads?

This technological Vacuum idea is an interesting one.

I think it will be a very good idea to make ourselves techonologically superior. It be better to sell techs, than to buy them.

But we must put ourselves in a position to hurdle ourselves past the builders eventually, so they do not get an edge.
