Mega-Lo-Mania Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Does anyone remember this game?

This was the first strategy game I ever played on my Amiga. There were 4 factions, and you could choose, though there little or no difference between them. You had to research stuff, form alliances, the usual suspects.

The best part of the game was entering a square where you had twice as many men as another faction then cancelling the alliance and butchering them.

Also great was the "We've nuked them" speech when you launched nuclear weapons. Also you could (if you knew MAD was in place) move 1 guy to another square and win.

Ah, one of Sensible Software's first and finest games. Ridiculously lop-sided battles (biplanes vs archers), great voice acting (and brilliant for 1991 and an 8-bit sound chip) including the already mentioned extremely enthusiastic "We nuked 'em!" speech, the indignant "We've been nuked!" and the sulky professor complaining that his lab had been destroyed. I spent countless hours on this.

Did you finish the game? There was a 'track' at the end with all the cool speeches and sound effects mashed together into a chaotic whole. It was great fun, and very innovative.

This was a great game.

The sounds were great, I loved the "We're running out of elements!" one that sounded like he said 'elephants'.

DrSpike: Yes, several times, though I do not remember the end you describe. It has been a few years...

The sound guy for Mega-Lo-Mania, Richard Joseph, also did the sound on all the other Sensible games, as well as those of The Bitmap Brothers and Cinemaware. It is all great.

All right, if you insist. The problem is the design is not balanced. Okay, that's the big problem I remember. Anyway, it's the third scenario or whatever where you have to fight a couple of enemies on an island. It's not so bad until you realise that each one was the equal of you. There were certain expendable resources that you couldn't get back until the next scenario. In other words, the game was so badly designed that they need to stack the odds against you 2:1.

Upon realising that, I stopped playing.

Do try and put the game in it's context..........such strategy games were rare at the time, and there was a lot mega-lo-lo-mania did well. I remember it fondly.

got my Amiga up and running(for the most part!) recently and had a look at this again - still a great game, made me get out the other sensi classics like SWOS, Cannon Fodder and Sensi Golf(I wonder where Mr Civ got his idea from?).
They produced some (still) great games.

The game was great for its time, even if the sci-fi showdown with laser pistols was a real letdown.

Civ3 feels it has to stack the odds 7:1 or more against you

...and some fools still demand 15:1 or 31:1 or more

Unfortunately, that's back when Railroad Tycoon and Civ ruled. When was it? 1992?

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I'm pretty sure I played Mega-lo-mania on my Atari-ST before I bought a 286 PC. The first games I can remember getting for the 286 were Warlords I and RT with Civ not far behind.

Got spare money?

From an objective point of view Railroad Tycoon and Civ1 were certainly far better games than Mega-Lo-Mania. Better designed, more depth, strategy etc etc...

However, in 1992 I was only 10/11 years old. Civ and RT were too complicated for me and Mega-Lo-Mania filled a very nice war-gaming niche, which is why I have much fonder memories of it (that and the fact that the sound was hilarious ).
Back then Civ and RR were the 'boring games my Dad played'.

I empathise with this.....I played RT and Civ later on as well.
