The insane scope of PtW Demo Game. Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

I don't know if this has been discussed in a thread yet... but flash just told me it will take 11 years to play with 7 teams until 2050. Imagine... if a tech is researched in ten turns that means TEN WEEKS! First tech might take a half year to research. INSANE!

The game will be shorter than 11 years :
The first turns will be done during chats, which will speed up the early game dramatically. Possibly, we'll keep this sytem for a long time (each team has a wek to plan long term, but the game is played during the chat) if it works well
There will be eliminated teams. An eliminated team means about 1 year less.
At some time, we will want to play more quickly, and we'll device a way to play faster than 1 turn a week.

People are noticing this?

I have a hunch events will overtake the PBEM game. The next patch *should* make an MP game using Turn Based or Simultaneous practical.

Meet once a week for 10 turns...

I think we could carry on with the PBEM game anyway. No law against 2 games going, is there?

Increase Your PM Length

I think more than one team will be able to play a day, and we should be able to cut it down to 5 years

if Every team gives its leader (or president, whatever) some strong powers... and make them the Kings, Premiers or Presideints of powers that they should be, instead of making them useless order-takers like in the C3DG... the game can go by pretty quickly.

As Spiffy mentioned, the turnchats will cut down on time immensely. We'll probably get a dozen or so turns done every week.

I think you may be over estimating the efficiency of PBEM. Even at 10 minutes per team per turn, 5 turns with 7 teams will take 6 hours. Cut the time in half (unlikely) and you could get 10 turns done in 6 hours.

We'll be able to move things very very quickly if we get a rhythm going. Yes, it's doubtful we'll hit the 10 turn goal that we set, but we can get close if we move things fast enough.

ahem...

we had problems doing 10 turns in the SINGLE player C3DG

throw in between 4-7 more times of that.

Only sure way to increase spead is to lesten the ammount of democracy, and give better powers to the Presidents.

The Civ 3 Demo Game became too beaurocratic.

The 'turnchats' are basically only for the representatives of each team that are playing the game. Discussion within the teams is optional, and not part of the official process.

I must say I like this idea. Let's have the Democracy come in with the elections, and with the general strategies and priorities given to the Presidents. There's no problem with giving the Prez/Dictator a set order of techs to get/things to build in normal city circumstances, but more flexibility in terms of actual orders would be great.

And one more thing - NO CONSTITUTIONS!

anther thing I am pretty sure that you can transfer the game to mp as a saved game and play it online. The only problem is that we will have to have new patch installed, and that might mess the game up.

I like making this a ten turn situation, where general guidance is given by the respective councils or team members, and authority is given to the chosen temporary leader, etc...to run the set of turns. President for ten turns!!! Anyway, we could run in MP mode, with turn-based play, once a week. People would then get together with their teams reporting on the results, events, etc...This game would be over in roughly 1.5 years.

That's true, but if 5 or 6 of the teams are playing quickly and 1 or 2 are taking forever arguing amongst themselves and debating points of their constitution etc. etc. they will become very unpopular.

We can play the game in any way we like as long as we don't get in the way of the enjoyment of others.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Here's a solution:

Every team except RP Team realizes that the RP team will win, so they all disband their settler on the first turn.

Okay, how can we do this all with time zone differences? Maybe I'm too lazy to think it over, but we need to know.
As far as 1 team's turn per 1 day, are we going by GMT time on that day? Or Apolyton time? Or Idontunderstandthequestion time?
