Talk about fertile north and dry south is very general, in the direct vicinity the south (or south-west, west) might be more fertile, as indicated by the river beyond the mountains which were just explored.

Well, I agree then. To have the best chance at success, we will have to explore the north. But our first warrior (the TEG) should continue to explore the west.

I would like to point out that the river alongside Gold Mountain goes into the mountains further SW. There may be another nice river vally at the end of the mountain ridge.
